Maybe not the worst, but I'll pass. Someone else might like this though. Definitely not me.

I entered. What's the worst that could happen? A trip to London and having to drink some tea?

The only way this is a great prize is if second place is someone smashing your testicles with a hammer.

I'm in. Hell, its only tea with her. WAIT!!!! Does "having tea" have some kind of sexual meaning in the UK? like "hot coffee" in the US?

Looking forward to winning and standing up Susan and leaving her high and tea leaf dry.

Re: Worst. Contest. Ever. Have tea with Susan Boyle!

I'm sure she's a nice gal to have a spot of tea and a scone with. I admire what she's done. Her music may not be "my cup of tea" generally speaking, but her first winning appearance on that British show actually moved me with her performance.

Hey, if you don't like Susan, don't enter the contest. There are plenty of dowdy American housewives for whom she's a hero, and it would be one of the high points of their year to be able to take that trip.

Also, this thread shouldn't be in hot deals, IMO. Even if this is a deal, obviously the OP does not think it is hot.

If I win, maybe I can get lucky and get to have a little more than tea.

Turns out most people would either enter for the hell of it or actually enjoy the trip to London (as would I).

Re: Worst. Contest. Ever. Have tea with Susan Boyle!

Thanks for posting OP (even though you incorrectly labeled it the worst contest ever). I couldn't care less about Susan Boyle, but for a free trip to London I'm definitely in.

I entered. I don't even know who Susan Boyle is though, so the "tea date" could be quite awkward.

Re: Worst. Contest. Ever. Have tea with Susan Boyle!

One (1) winner will receive:
- Two (2) round trip airline tickets (economy coach class) from the international airport closest to the winner’s hometown to a London, UK-area airport (as determined at the sole discretion of the Sponsor); and
- Two (2) nights’ hotel accommodation (standard, one room, double occupancy) in London, UK;
- The opportunity for the winner and his or her guest to have afternoon tea with Susan Boyle, at a to-be-determined location in London, UK on January 29, 2010 (“Afternoon Tea”); and
- Ground transportation to and from winner’s hotel to afternoon tea location.

Squeezing my 3XL frame into a coach/economy seat for a transatlantic flight, even if for "free", doesn't turn me on. That aside, having won expensive "free" stuff in the past, I can tell you that you still have to worry about taxes. The sponsor will sure as shit send you a 1099, plus a copy to the IRS, listing every possible dollar they can. These are deductible to them (typically as an advertising expense), but taxable to you. If they estimate that the tickets, hotel, ground transportation, and cup of tea are worth $3000, then you'll be paying tax on that at your marginal rate. For me, 25% plus state/local would run me ~$900 for the "free" trip.

Pass.

I read an article on this and apparently Susan's new album is Amazon's most pre-ordered CD EVER, with over 100,000 units pre-ordered.

Exactly. Musically she isn't on my radar, but what's wrong with having tea with a nice lady for an hour?

Would love the London trip. I have no idea what I'd say to Susan Boyle, though.

Re: Worst. Contest. Ever. Have tea with Susan Boyle!

WTH, I entered. Trip to UK.

Official Rules did state that it is for 2 nites hotel. I assume you could choose to extend at your own cost.

Also gave an exact date in January. Forgot what it said. But that could be restrictive for many.....
