Being able to measure copper in your tap water is an important step in improving the quality of health for the average person.
WHY USE THE COPPER TEST CARD
Being able to measure copper in your tap water is an important step in improving the quality of health for the average person. Beginning in 2003 Dr. Larry Sparks, Head of the Laboratory of Neurodegenerative Research at the Sun Health Research Institute in Sun City, Arizona, serendipitously discovered that copper in drinking water as low as 0.12 mg/L (120 ppb - parts per billion) caused Alzheimer-like pathology in rabbits. This should be of concern to everyone because the established lower limit of copper in drinking water set by the EPA is 1.30 mg/L (1,300 ppb) and is 10 times greater that the level that causes Alzheimer-like pathology in animals. Since 2003, this and other research continues to implicate chronic copper toxicity in the progression of degenerative diseases, notably, Alzheimer's disease.
Healthmine Inc. has developed a convenient copper test card to measure copper levels in tap water. We are excited about the capability of this test card because it is simple to use; gives the average person the ability to measure very low levels of copper and rivals equipment costing thousands of dollars. In controlled tests, using this card, untrained persons were able to measure copper levels as low as 1 parts per billion. Most commercially available copper tests can only measure at best down to 200 parts per billion. This is an important distinction because at 200 parts per billion, such a copper test would miss toxic levels of copper in drinking water that may promote Alzheimer’s disease according to these animal studies.
Water treatment equipment for the home is available which can reduce tap water copper down to 0.010 mg/L (10 ppb) or less. For example reverse osmosis units have this capability. After installation of a home treatment system, the test card with its high sensitive capability can then be used to monitor and help ensure that these healthy copper levels in the tap water are maintained.
HOW TO USE THE COPPER TEST CARD
The copper test card mailed to your home or place of business is found protected in a plastic zip-locked bag. Instructions on copper test card use can be found attached to the side of the bag. When you are ready to use the test card follow the numbered instructions below. Do not run the tap water prior to use for at least 8 hours. Since copper leeches from the plumbing in your home, the test should be performed on "first-draw" tap water first thing in the morning.
Instructions
Open and hold the bag under the faucet.
Fill with tap water to the fill-line on the side of the bag.
Remove bag from under the faucet and zip-lock securely.
Place bag so that "Your Water" can be read face up.
Leave the card in the bag for 24 hours..
Empty water from the bag, remove card and check your results.
Visit www.copperproof.com or call (877) BE-PIPE-X for more information.
The bag holds about 500 ml which is roughly the volume of fluid (cerebrospinal) an adult human brain sits in.
