Yeah, but they seem to be $10 more at each of those other sites.

Not everyone lives by a Microcenter, though-there aren't any in my state, for example-so it's good to have a list of other places to buy it, even for $10 more. Plus, the Microcenter deal appears to be for in-store pickup only.

I don't know about you, but I don't want to have to go stand in a mob of Windows geeks to get my copy of 7.

I pre-ordered mine from Amazon.com this morning. Yes, I will pay $49.99 (unless it drops -- not likely), but no tax or shipping, and no driving or waiting in line.

I am thinking I may just get a new Dell when the new OS comes out. My 5 year old Dimension 8400 has served me well.

Then why even reply to this? I posted this for those that do live near one because I thought it might be helpful. Sorry.

Exactly, to your spoiler. Big thanks to both posters.

Meglets post was even better, as most don't have a Microcenter near them, or even if they do, don't want to deal with them.

The focus of any thread should be in helping people find the item at the best price, not necessarily adhering to the original store/poster/post.

Personally, I've been needing to upgrade my PC for at least a year, so will likely wait another couple months until I get one that includes 7.

Another advantage to buying at Amazon is that it looks like you don't have to make your decision by tomorrow (the 28th).

From Amazon's website... Offer ends July 11, 2009, or while supplies last, whichever happens first.

P.S. - thanks Snowmaker for starting this thread!

maybe because you don't specify it in the title that it's B&M only, so he's pointing that out to people thinking this is an online deal.

That price is for the Upgrade Version if anyone hasn't noticed. Though I have read that you can get a clean install from it the same way you could with the Vista Upgrade so that may not be an issue.

I can't remember where I read it, but I seem to recall someone saying that Windows 7 Upgrade will ask for your existing Vista or XP Product Key before it will install. It will then 'disable' your old Product Key, and activate Windows 7.

I have a feeling there will be another unofficial loophole, just like Vista... but time will tell. Worst case scenario, you cancel your pre-order if someone online discovers that it can't be done.

Re: Windows 7 Upgrade coupon at Micro Center ($39.99 Home, $89.99 Prof.) 6/26 - 6/28

People who bought the Windows Vista Upgrade discs could do a completely clean installation without any other previous version of Windows installed. You essentially just had in install Vista once (without the Product Key!), then install it again over top of itself (using your product key). That loophole existed for people who, for example, threw away their old XP installation disc, then had to do a clean install of Vista for some reason (ie: hard drive crash) but only had their Upgrade disc to do it.

Ohhh. For some reason, I always thought that the upgrades were supposed to work that way. heh.

I have Vista Full and was considering getting Win7 upgrade with the expectation that I can do a fresh install by:

1. Insert Win7 Upgrade DVD.
2. Format C:
3. Click install.
4. Enter Vista key
5. Enter Win7 key
6. Wait 15 minutes for Win7 to install.
7. Enjoy Win7.
