Best place to get cheap airfare to Hawaii?

My mom is going to Hawaii in a few months and I am trying to get her cheap airfare. The cheapest in early September (roundtrip) appears to be $500. Since I've never gone...does that sound about right (from Burbank, CA). The websites I've checked so far have been PriceLine.com and Airfare.com.

$500 is a lot cheaper than what I'm paying for our trip to Hawaii in July. We are flying from the east coast and only making one stop though.

Why are you flying out of Burbank? Fly out of LAX on a Tuesday or Wednesday and your flight should be almost $200 cheaper.

Burbank or LAX...does not matter either way. She is leaving on a Thursday.

Try sidestep.com . Really.

Good prices though.

Why not? It's not like you've got anything else to do on the airplane - sleeping is a GREAT option. And the plane won't be nearly as full (hence the cheaper price), plus you don't have as much jet lag to worry about. Heck, for the five hundred bones the OP was prepared to shell out, he could buy his momma TWO seats (can you say "elbow room") and still have money left over.

I love me some Red Eyes.

As long as the redeye's aren't Sunday departures, you usually have a whole row to yourself. And if you want, connecting flights also seem very cheap. Tho it sucks to be in the air for such a long time, it really adds to the FF miles.

I recently did a LAX -> SEATAC -> HNL ... HNL -> LAX for $300 r/t and I booked it 5 days in advance. I didn't mind the connector... usually thru SEATAC or SFO, I hate backtracking to go forward as you will see some SLC connections from LAX.

Re: Best place to get cheap airfare to Hawaii?

The only downside to a Redeye is figuring what to do with the hotel. If she's boarding an 8pm flight, she won't need the room, but the hotel may require she checkout by 11am. Even heading to the airport early, there's still some pretty significant time on her hands with no "base" to return to. Her packed suitcases will be in her rental car until she gets to HNL for her flight home.

As long as she's aware of that and has a plan, all should be well.

Alaskaair.com has deals from Seattle or Portland to Hawaii. I know from Portland to Maui was $169. It might be another option for you if you can get up the the NW first, then get to HI.

Re: Best place to get cheap airfare to Hawaii?

Depending on the hotel, I've seen a couple places on the Big Island that are specials for around $200/night, which is 2-3x less than when I went a couple years ago. The most recent thing I saw on Travelzoo.
