Free 20-ounce Dr Pepper!

As reported by various news services:

LOS ANGELES – Dr Pepper is making good on its promise of free soda now that the release of Guns N' Roses' "Chinese Democracy" is a reality.

The soft-drink maker said in March that it would give a free soda to everyone in America if the album dropped in 2008. "Chinese Democracy," infamously delayed since recording began in 1994, goes on sale Sunday.

"We never thought this day would come," Tony Jacobs, Dr Pepper's vice president of marketing, said in a statement. "But now that it's here, all we can say is: The Dr Pepper's on us."

Beginning Sunday at 12:01 a.m., coupons for a free 20-ounce soda will be available for 24 hours on Dr Pepper's Web site. They'll be honored until Feb. 28.

Dr Pepper is owned by Dr Pepper Snapple Group, Inc.

Is 24 hours enough time to print out 275 million coupons?

as a Canadian citizen currently in Texas this week...
yay! Free Dr. Pepper!

edit: damn. I just read the details, and you don't get the coupon for 4 to 6 weeks. Lame. Looks like I'll be paying for my Dr. Pepper tomorrow. As a protest, I will not pay for Chinese Democracy. Well, I wasn't planning on paying for it anyway (or listening to it. ever. Except maybe Sorry.)

Not even Dr. Pepper can cure the bad taste in my mouth after hearing that album.

I click "submit" and it waits 30 seconds then it times out. That's nice. Anybody else having issues?

Right now I can't even get the site to load. I guess it's being overwhelmed.

Yeah, it looks like the site is getting hit pretty hard... It was taking me forever to get from page to page. Who knows if it went through or not... I'm not worried. I was getting it for a friend.

I logged on early this morning and got in fine. I actually filled the form out twice (after clearing cookies).

I'm going to make an effort to really enjoy my drink considering how long it took for me to get a confirmation screen.

Unrelated, I guess, but...

I drove to Dublin, TX today. That was fun. Picked up a case of 8 oz bottles (made with Imperial Pure Cane Sugar; the "original" recipe). I don't think I can drink 24 in the next three days, so I'll leave the rest with my Fort Worth co-workers.

I know. I don't think I've ever spent this much time and effort trying to save $1.50.

Ha! I knew this would end up happening, with how terrible their site has been today...

This is newly updated tonight on their site:

"We are sorry for any delays you have experienced in securing a coupon for a free Dr Pepper. While we had taken additional steps to meet the expected demand for our offer, the response has been greater than anticipated. To resolve this, we are increasing our server capacity and making a toll-free number available (1-888-DRPEPPER or 1-888-377-3773). In addition, as a result of the technical delays, we are extending the offer and will provide more information shortly.

Thanks for your patience and support."

Web site down and phone number busy.
I already have a case of Dr. Pepper and a case of Diet Dr. Pepper in the house. If I don't get one for free, at least I have some to drink.
