Odd Telemarketing Call
Got a call from a telemarketer today. I'm not sure where they got my number because I don't give out my real one ever on the internet. They were calling regarding subscriptions I was getting from Rewards Gold (Vibe, Blender, and they said 3 others). The company was called "something-Source". I couldnt quite make out what they said. They said they were calling warning me not to renew with other companies that might call for renewals. The woman asked me a few questions and them put me through to a supervisor. He said that he would make sure no other companies would call me anymore for renewals and they would take care of my subscriptions for $12.99 a week. I told them I got all mine for free. He said it was in his database that I pay $12.99. I told him that's not correct. He starts to say something else than I hear the line disconnect. I'm guessing it's some kind of scam. Anyone else get a call like this? The company's number is (720)263-4512.

I received a strange call regarding subscriptions maybe a week or so ago. Some lady telling me that if I renewed any more of my subscriptions I'd start getting double copies. When I asked her what magazines she was talking about, she wouldn't answer. I told her that if she couldn't answer my question, I wouldn't be able to answer any of hers. That was pretty much the end of the call.

I got a call like that one in the past. They told me that for $19.99 a month, they would take care of all my magazine subscriptions. I asked him to state which ones and he just stated "all of them." They did not even know which magazines I subscribe to and I told him that my magazine subscriptions don't even add up to that much a month since most are at a very low price or free.

I recall Stuff magazine (I think, maybe Maxim or FHM) a few years back sent a letter to subscribers saying 'watch out for phone calls from XXX,who claim to be from us.' Basically they would ask questions to which the answer was Yes, and apply your Yes answer to the question "is your name Jim SMith" to the question "Would you like us to renew your subscription for a hundred dollars a month." I forget how they did it, but it was sneaky, and Stuff said "Don't say anything at all to these people, just hang up."
Apparently some other folks have dealt with that one caller http://www.callercomplaints.com/Sear...e=720-263-4512 I have gotten invoices from Magazine Renewal House or something that look legit but are no company I've every dealt with, and who want me to renew for some insane price. The phrasing and layout of the note is more like a bill than a renewal form, so I wouldn't be surprised if lots of people just pay the "bill" they received. 720-263-4512 303-975-8858 Out of Area The 3 calls were in reference to the Vibe magazine sub. When I told them I got the magazine for free, the hung up. They have called again during the entire day. They hang up when I question them. Is there anyone, beside the do-not-call list, who we can report these people? |
