Nintendo DS?

My stepdaughter wants a DS for Christmas any ideas where I can get one on sale?

ben12 12-11-06 09:43 AM

I don't think these are ever on sale. Your best bet is to try and buy it from a store with a rewards program or use a credit card that gives you points or cash back.

Fry's will occasionally have a package where you get a preselected game at a discount with it. I took a Fry's ad that had the DS Lite and Space Invaders for $139.99 (basically paying $10 for the game) to Best Buy to Price Match, but they did not have Space Invaders so they let me take $10 off any $19.99 or less DS game, so I picked up the DS and Metroid Pinball for my son for Christmas. Got to use my Best Buy Reward certs toward it and got the points on my Reward Zone card for it.

As stated, there aren't too many deals on these... a few stores in my area still had the original DS and those could be had for prices ranging from $79 to $99, but I'd think those are probably all gone now.

Use Google Checkout or a Coupon and buy it online.

rassi 12-11-06 11:19 AM

Cheapest I've seen one without any discounts was $119.... don't remember where tho.

Michael Corvin 12-11-06 12:19 PM

I bought one as a gift using Google Checkout. Was $116 shipped.

Pick up the DS Lite, not the DS. Much smaller & lighter, screen has adjustable brightness, cover for the slot for the normal Gameboy games, longer stylus, etc etc.

And no, you're not going to get any great deals right now. The best you'll do is to get a free carrying case which is of dubious value.

If you really do want to go cheaper and don't mind if you give her the old DS, stop by a game store and check out the used DS's. Should be around $80 or $90.

Yup, the best you can do is get a free game or something $10 off. Nothing else.

I just started a thread with the same question, I'll post here instead.
in the same boat, looking for a good price. best i've seen is 20off using Google checkout on buy.com problem is you still have to pay shipping so it ends up being 116 -119

And last time I checked; they were out of stock and you can only use GC with in-stock items.

VitiminJ 12-11-06 04:25 PM

Amazon is offering $30 off the first purchase if you sign up with their credit card, I may go that route.

damn. And I already have an amazon credit card. I guess I just have to pay full price somewhere.

Not sure where you live, but in Michigan, I just got some Santa Dollars coupons from Meijer. $20.00 off a purchase of $99.97 on 12/13 & 12/14.

Hope it helps...

Both Sam's Club and Costco have packages, but I haven't paid attention to the prices lately, so not sure if they're good deals or not. We bought one last year at Sears when they were having a 10% off sale.

beavismom 12-12-06 08:26 AM

You can get 20% off at Toys R Us if you sign up for their credit card. I didn't scan all the fine print because I wasn't planning on doing it, but what I saw didn't exclude game systems.

I know alot of the places I've checked recently, the stores were out of stock. I was finally able to get one online through Circuit City(full price of course).

Heat 12-12-06 11:54 AM

Speaking of being out of stock, Best Buy online has been out of stock since right after Thanksgiving. And they say that the stores don't have stock either (in-store pickup not available).

This won't be sold out everywhere, but you're not going to find any killer sales. By the way, it looks like the black and pink ones are out of stock at Amazon but the white one is still instock... for now.

exm 12-12-06 02:33 PM

Wow. I got mine about a week ago at buy.com but they seem to be sold out there. My other alternative was overstock.com but they're also sold out.

Hello, Christmas shopping!

squidget 12-13-06 11:10 AM

All retailers near me are sold out. I placed an order on amazon for regular price. Least I saved on tax and/or shipping.

I am going to try this today. Hopefully they have them in stock. Thanks for the heads up!

ETA.......well it's OOS here. Sales help said they **may** get a shipment in this afternoon but not sure what time.

chaz k 12-15-06 06:07 PM

Check your local EB Games and Gamestops i went there today and they had all 3 colors in stock. I picked up 1 pink and 1 black.

bdhart 12-16-06 04:42 AM

Even though Best Buy's website showed sold out, I was able to buy one on Tuesday at my local store. Might check at the B&M.

pitcher9 12-16-06 08:12 AM

I ended up paying full price for it at Amazon. They had the white one in stock after searching many, many stores around town (my local GameStop has been out of them for days)
