Don't waste your time at the Brookfield, Connecticut location unless you're in need of some watch batteries. That carcass has been picked clean.

Sorry just noticed this. There's two left (the Sahara one closed off already) ... I went to the one that's NOT Nellis (Tropicana I think? Don't really remember).

It was picked clean. I think he had 11 days left when I went. He said anything he doesn't sell, other stores will buy so he's not going over 70-90%. He had some Cingular phones left when I was there.

All of mine are staying open, and a good thing too. Sometimes I just need an odd replacement jack, led, or length of specialty wire.

I preferred having the close one too. But it just became a matter of whether I drove 3 miles or 5 miles down the freeway before I took an exit and continued on the same distance to another one.

In times when you can get a 3' HDMI cable from monoprice for $145 less than Radio Shack it's a wonder they haven't gone under sooner. They can't compete these days. For every impulse purchase where they rip someone off there are more and more people who do a little research and save money buying elsewhere.

I will admit that they are handy for the times you realize you need an XR52-J6 coupler adapter...or whatever. But how many times do you really find yourself in need of one of those?

Are they even convenient enough for 'impulse purchases'? To me that's the 1.29 20oz at the gas station, or the DVD at Blockbuster or Walmart, or the candy bar at the checkout.

well, went to the RS in N Holy and they didn't have much. no dvi or component cables. only some s-video and rca.

the one thing that they had that was decent priced was a NIB Dish dvr 522. at first, the guy said he wasn't selling. then, the csr (or probably the manager) said 199, and i said no. then, he said 150 final offer, and i still said no. it's a good deal though for someone who needs it, or to ebay it and make maybe 30-50 bux.

Phew! I thought Radio Shack was going out of business as a whole.

Ocasionally, they have some crazy prices on clearance items. It's good to have them around

I have never, and I mean NEVER had a helpful or knowledgeable salesperson at any RS I've ever been to. I've posted my frustrations with them on this board before.

But I will be going to try to find a firewire cable.

A word of warning. You may want to call ahead to make sure the store is still open. I drove to one that showed it was going out of business last week. After driving in circles without finding it, it dawned on me that the freakin' store was already closed.

From Retailing Today:

RadioShack to sponsor Rolling Stores tour

FORT WORTH, Texas - July 26 - By Laura Heller
RadioShack may be seeing red, financially, but the company has begun to step up marketing in conjunction with its turnaround plan. The retailer announced yesterday that it is sponsoring the Rolling Stones fall tour of North America.
The tour kicks off in Boston on Sept. 20, the same city where RadioShack began and dovetails nicely with the retailer’s 85th anniversary next year, according to Tori Binau, RadioShack senior vp of marketing. Additionally, the sponsorship provides an opportunity for the retailer to better connect with its customer base, many of which are counted in the Rolling Stones fan base, she said.

It’s the company’s first big advertising push since the fourth quarter of last year and one that coincides with changes being made in RadioShack stores including the elimination of underperforming merchandise and the addition of flat screen TVs.

“The Rolling Stones are great at reinventing themselves and we’re in the process of reinventing ourselves,” Binau told Retailing Today. “So it’s a great fit for us.”

“The Rolling Stones don't know anything about electronics and neither do we,” Binau told Retailing Today. “So it’s a great fit for us.”
