$29 for a 200GB Seagate HD 7200rpm, 8mb cache

At CompUSA this holiday weekend. Price tag will say $139. At checkout, you will get $110 total in rebates (3 rebates).

Man, too bad the closest CompUSA is 40 miles from me....
Staples has a Maxtor 200GB 7200 rpm 8mb cache for 39.94 after easy rebate, not sure if that's all week or just president's day

twikoff 02-20-06 08:29 AM

there is a compusa about 3 miles from me, and on my way home from work
too bad i dont need any extra drive space now
normally i would go ahead and take advantage of it, but i dont want to deal with the money up front and rebates on something i dont really have much use for right now :(

Are these better deals than this one?

Fantom Titanium 250GB 7200RPM USB 2.0 External Hard Drive - TFDU25072 - $97.95

http://www.buy.com/retail/product.as...70&dcaid=17070

I'm about to start shooting a lot of video footage, and will be doing a lot of video captures. Would something like this work for me how I need it to? If not, what would you guys suggest to pick up for not too much?

If you're going to be transferring massive amounts of storage at one time and you're looking to get an external drive, you might think about getting one with a FireWire 400 or 800 interface. One way to do this is get the Seagate 200 gb for $29, and then you can get an external case for $50-$100 (depending on whether you spring for the FW400 or FW800). You'll also need a FW card if your computer doesn't already have a FW plug. I think that'll run you about $40. Do a Google search on "FireWire 400 USB 2.0 comparison" to see what the difference is.

Excellent. I was in Baltimore for the weekend, and there was a CompUSA a half mile from our hotel. I picked one up and just upgraded my very full 40 GB HD system. Thanks! :)

kitten*fish 02-22-06 01:19 PM

hi! just to clarify...that price is good for this coming weekend? the 25th and 26th? i'm just asking because the closest compusa to me is 45 minutes away, but i'm willing to drive there for this price!

thanks

Chew 02-22-06 01:59 PM

I think you missed it. The OP states "this holiday weekend", which I would think meant a President's Day sale.

hahn 02-23-06 12:58 AM

yup, you missed it. sorry! congrats to everyone else who got in on the deal.

kitten*fish 02-23-06 08:49 AM

yeah...i figured as much...i was just hoping that since the post was monday (a weekday) that there was a holiday i may not know about coming up!

:( thanks anyway!

CompUSA is running a March Madness sale from now until Saturday and have this hard drive on sale again for $29.99 after all the instant saving and rebates.

What a crock. I got to my local CompUSA at 6:30 pm (the sale started at 6:00 pm) and they claimed to be sold out of all the 200 gig drives, as well as the 250 giggers that were on sale too. Complete bait and switch IMO.

Barney1234 03-18-06 04:59 PM

only good for 1 day, which was yesterday

CompUSA is notorious for that shit. I quit shopping there because of it. I'd hit the store the moment they opened on Sunday for a certain item, go in and there are only 2 of said item(TWO! of an item that is in the ad) and the people in line in front of me snagged them. This happened on numerous occasions.

masetodd 03-20-06 11:36 AM

I used to shop at either CompUSA or OfficeDepot when they had the "Free after Rebates" thing going (about a year ago). That free stuff was the only thing I bought in the store, and I wasn't the only one. They would always be crowded on Sunday morning after the ads came out. Once they stopped offering those deals, I stopped going - the stores are dead now on Sunday morning.
