I guess it's time to give up my original back-in-the-day, before progressive, non-DTS Toshiba that I bought used for what, like $200-something on eBay...

Plus it can play DVDs from all regions, PAL, etc... there's really no excuse to not be region-free any more.

I bought this player before and it doesn't play dvd+r.

Somewhere on their website also talks about it.

Strange, mine does. But then they have many versions of firmware. Maybe an early one had that problem.

All I could find about this on their site for this model was

Playable Discs:
• DVD, Audio CD, VCD, CD-R, CD-RW, SVCD, JPG, DVD ± R/RW

which says it does support DVD+R.

I have had this player for quite awhile and also never had any issues playing DVD+R. Pretty solid little player.

I see the thread title has been changed to "$18 a/r [now $20 plus shipping]" The shipping on this item is $9.99 (call it $10), so the a/r price would be $30 a/r. Maybe the title should be changed again to reflect the net out of pocket price???

But look at the service you get:

When the product has arrived in the local facility, the agent will call you to arrange a four-hour window for delivery. At your home, delivery experts will unbox your product, carry it inside and place it in the room of your choice. The delivery experts use protective equipment such as floor mats and doorjamb padding to prevent damage, and they haul away all packing materials and debris.

I ordered 2 of these units for friends a couple of weeks ago for $38.49 each. Luckily, I managed to ordered one unit with this deal @ 18 AR.

It's back with free shipping and only $2 more than it was originally.

I hope you don't have exchange it twice to get one that works right like I did.

You have to press a few buttons on the remote.

Power up, no disk in. Status says READ then INSERT DISC.
Press MENU (status reads invalid key icon)
Press 1 (status reads invalid key icon)
Press 9 Menu is displayed.
Press ENTER on the region, digit turns to "-"
Press 0
Press ENTER again
Press EJECT to clear the special menu.

I missed out on free shipping before, so I waited until it was offered again. Jumped on it this time and ordered today. The only unfortunate thing is that the estimated shipping date is December 27 - January 9. Hope I don't have problems with the rebate. Amazon has been good about this in the past.

So, is this a kid's room/basement-only worthy machine? I'm getting tired of moving the one between the living room and the master bedroom. But my only other player is my original circa 1999 Samsung that has lots of trouble with anything out of the ordinary...

NOTE: The master is a freakin' huge 36" Toshiba CRT (that needs to turn into a 32" or bigger panel of some sort), and the LR is an InFocus projector thrown to about 100"

I have one, and it's a nice compact dvd player, however it will have jerky playback on some DVDs. The most notorious in my collection are Star Trek TNG dvds, it has a hard time playing the 2nd-layer. I think it has something to do with the way the discs were authored.

It doesn't decode DTS, but mine passes it to my receiver just fine. Are you sure you have your settings right?

I ended up sending back my third one. I thought I had a good one because it worked so well for about 2 weeks, while the other two went bad very quickly. I was wrong, it went bad right in the middle of a DVD.

So I gave up on these newer models. My other two, both over a year old, are still working great. They must have really cut some corners on the new models, or all mine came from a bad batch.

Because I thought I finally had a good one I sent in the rebate and received it a couple days ago. Very fast turnaround for a rebate! But now what am I supposed to do? I already returned the unit I got the rebate for.

I just got a message from Amazon that the price has been lowered to $36.99, but I see the shipping is now up to $9.99 (not available for prime).

I got the similar (same factory?) Polaroid model at CC. It was $5 less. But I think it's crapping out on me. I'm gonna switch wires and try again.
