Arturo Fuentes are one of best cigars that I have ever smoked. They're from the Dominican Republic. Here's a link. You shop around for the best price as these can be quite expensive.

I use to smoke the Arturo Fuentes 858 Maduro, but then fell in love with the CAO Maduros. I've only ordered cigars online (once) from Cigar.com. The only reason why I only purchased once was because the price of Fed Ex was equivalent to paying tax.

Here are a few links I have though:

Cigar Inn: www.cigarinn.com (In NY where I buy my cigars)

Cigar.com: www.cigar.com (where I purchased once)

Discount Cigars: www.discountcigars.org (been trying to find this place while driving between NY & VT)

Hope this helps.

Do a google search for cuban cigars canada.

They are legal there and during trips to the north I noticed they seemed to be everywhere. Here's one canadian dealer of cubans:

Yeah, I've heard that the best cigars come from the Dominica Republic now. It seems that when Cuba fell to Castro, most of the best cigar makers left and set up shop in the DR. Just what I heard, though....

Try www.thompsoncigar.com. They are in tampa, fl. They have a monthly catalog that they will mail as well as email notification and the ability to shop on the website.

About 1/2 the price of buying in a store. I've had good luck with them. The more expensive stuff does get backordered from time to time. They also have a buyer's incentive club if you want to place a standing order with them, you can get a bigger discount.

I recently had the CAOs for the first time. Very nice.

Have not tried the 858s.

My family is from Cuba, and my Dad is always saying that the best cigars are from DR.

A very big thank you to everyone here.

I tried the Montesino (Maduro) and La Gloria Cubana, Series R Maduro for the first time the other day, and I didn't like them. I have to go back to my CAOs. I use to smoke Cohibas, but they were too strong for me. I've also tried the St. Luis Rey (Maduro) which was good.

As has been stated, Cuban Cigars are illegal to purchase and/or import into the U.S.A. by people under the dominion of the U.S. Government. So I'm unable to offer much help on that front.

If you fall into the above category and want good cigars for cheap buy from JRCigars.com.

As far as specific cigar suggestions - hard to go wrong with Fuente made/overseen cigars (Fuente (Love their sungrowns), Don Carlos (my favorite line), Opus (a bit strong and not to my taste), Ashton VSG (a bit strong and more to my taste), Montesino (Sungrowns are wonderful), La Unica (used to be a great bundle cigar), etc.). Padron is also top notch. CAO was fantastic, I stopped smoking them regularly when they left Costa Rica and Don Douglas, but I hear good things about them still.

I'm enjoying Tatuaje cigars of late - Nicaraguan Puros created by a good friend of mine. I hesitate to recommend them to new smokers though as they are a bit strong. I've heard them described as 'Cubanesque' though as a U.S. Citizen I couldn't directly vouch for that.

Slightly off topic, but what makes some cigars so expensive? I noticed some are hand rolled versus machine rolled but similar to clothing, are you simply paying extra for a designer label? :)

Can you buy Dominicans in the US?

Yes, you can buy Dominicans in the US. The Arturo Fuentes 858 I use to smoke are Dominicans.

Also, while I was at the cigar bar this weekend, someone had ordered the Montecristo set. The set included 25 cigars, the ashtray, the coffee and coffee cups. I was in love, but since I don't smoke Montecristos, let alone 25 cigars, or drink coffee, the set would have gone to waste, but it was pretty.

You can get the set without the cigars.

Yeah, I know, but it just look so good sitting in that white box. That'll be my gift to myself when I pass my bar exam.

I have ordered several times. The have been good and reliable.

www.cgarsltd.co.uk

I used to get everything from there. Mitchell (the owner) is the nicest guy around. He hooked me the hell up with a gorgeous package of smokes when I was in England back in 2000...all for free since I was travelling and a previous customer. anyways...

Might I recommend a nice Trinidad Fundadore, and a few Bolivar Belicosos.

Also...Mitchell used to guarantee his stuff as not only authentic, but not to get pinched at the border (in my case, it was coming to the US). But since you're already in the UK...
