Columbia House Music Club no more after 9/1/2005

Just noticed this on the CH CD Club site:

"1. What is happening to my Columbia House Music Club membership?

The Columbia House Music Club is officially closing its doors on September 1, 2005. Because you are such a valued customer, we are looking forward to introducing you to BMG Music Service, where you can enjoy benefits similar to your Columbia House Music Club membership and more"

Farther down the page, it mentions that if you have not bought your commitment CD's by 9/1, you will not have to buy them at all. Nice deal.

wow. on one hand, CH has sucked for a great long time now. on the other hand, there's no more alternative.

hasn't CH been around for 20 some years now?

I believe the Columbia House music club has been around since the 1950s. I hope the acquisition makes the selctions greater since each club sometimes would carry something the other would not. CH kinda went downhill when they killed off the classical section into its own separate club.

I really hope BMG acquires CH's catalog. They had a lot of Yes, Genesis, ELP, and other albums that BMG didn't, and it is looking like I may never get them for a cheap price.

I went to re-join CH because of an email I received but the link now takes you to BMG. The same thing goes for the CH main page. I also hope BMG acquires CH's catalog because CH still had some cd's that I wanted that isn't available on BMG.

Bored, I called BMG and asked if they would get CH's catalog. The nice lady said no one will know until September 1st, which is when the deal is finalized.

Also, today I got an advertisement email for a Music Club account that was canceled over two years ago, and I was able to log in to the account. Even better, there were enough Bonus Points on the account for a free selection. If you've had a Music Club account and you're looking to grab some titles before CH Music is gone, it might be worth it to try accessing your account.

Bored again, I called BMG again and asked the same thing. I was told that BMG will acquire CH's music catalog and the DVD club will remain separate. Good news for folks like me who found the titles they wanted from CH out of stock when ordered.

On my BMG account, I have all CDs 2/3 off in conjuction with Free Shipping on Orders Over $30. The sale is essentially the same as YourMusic.com, except you earn Music Points.

Also, on my Columbia House account, the sale is Buy One Get Three. However, I've discovered if you play with your Wishlist a bit, you can actually get Buy One Get Four Free. Try adding and removing titles of the same price to your cart from your Wishlist to get it.

I have Buy 1 Get 3 as the standard deal on my referring account. I might be wrong, but I believe if B1G3 is a standard deal, then there's usually a dearth of promotion codes for the same offer.

Buy 1, get 3 free code

I have a good current buy 1, get 3 free code: A5CR1

I had been looking for one myself, as I just opened a new BMG account a few weeks ago, and wanted to fufill and max out the deal. My wife had an e-mail with this code in it from her ten year old still open account. I tried it on my just opened account and it worked just fine!

Awesome find, WMAangel! I resigned myself to using the B1G2 code yesterday, but I was able to call and cancel it in time.

I have a buy 1, get 3 free plus 10% off code, that I just used on my order and my fiancee's order. It is A5CR15. It expires Aug. 14th so if you want to use it, you better move on it now.

I don't have any codes,I just feel the need to vent a little.I was planning on ordering a few titles the other day.I noticed they had the Duran Duran singles box set for..well I forget the exact price but I think it was around $18.I ave been wanting this one for a while.I placed it in my cart.Than I looke at the order total including shipping.Judas Priest! The cost had sky rocketed to over $40!Would it really cost over $20 to ship this?I know shipping for each extra CD is 2-3 bucks and this is a 16(i think)disc set,but c'mon! It's not that big of a box and it's not like each disc comes in it's own jewel case.Anyway,I decided to instead order 1 get 3 "free".Today I received a message telling me that 2 of my title s had shipped.I hate when they do this.I would rather get all 4 at once. Was any one else as surprised as I was to see them add a Brian Eno CD to the club?I seriously hope they add more and told them so.I'm still a little mad at them for saying I owe $22 for a CD I returned over 2 months a go.Yeah, like I would keep a Marilyn Manson CD.Okay,I'm done.

I was thinking of joining the BMG Club again for the first time in a few years, but now with the CH merge coming up, i might hold off until after the 1st of September to see if any new deals or changes occur. What do you think?

The only change that would come, I believe, would be more selections. We'll still have B1G3 codes and self-referrals.

I couldn't find the answer to this question here or on the BMG site. Do 2-CD sets count as 2 selections when you buy them? I know they count as 2 when you try to enroll (which, IMHO, is BS) and they charge $11.98 instead of $5.99 in yourmusic (more BS). So, if I bought a 2-CD set in a B1G3, would I get 6 free? Thanks in advance!

I just added a 2 disc set to my cart and started to load up other titles. Alas, you will only get 3 free even though you're buying a 2 disc set.

EDIT: SFranke beat me by seconds in answering your question.

you used to be able to, but now they've changed that. just like they've stopped the ability to apply free selections towards anything other than a 1 cd album.
