Just wanted to update this thread with a new development with regard to Batteryspace.com. In case you weren't aware, up until recently, you would have been able to access their web site through the www.bydusa.com domain as well–i.e. you would have seen exactly what you see now at www.batteryspace.com. However, if you try to access it now, you see a notice essentially saying that the domain is in dispute with the following warning:
Consumers purchasing at batteryspace.com should be aware that batteryspace.com is NOT sponsored by BYD (China) Company Limited. NO BYD (China) batteries will be sold at batteryspace.com.
I'm not sure if this means that Batteryspace.com never sold BYD batteries or that BYD is no longer supplying batteries to Batteryspace.com. In any event, I just wanted to get the word out about this and make sure folks were informed.

They probably said that as a technicality to avoid the parent company being taxed once it had a physical sales outlet building.

Anyways, updated to include the Digipower fastcharger sold at CompUSA. It is the same as the Vanson V1000 charger sold at batteryspace.com.

Now seeing the newer AA 2100mAH cells at the retail stores now. They have been typically packaged with the one hour or less ultra-fast chargers.

Does anyone know if draining a battery by connecting its two terminals will damage it? I'm a bit concerned about the memory effect of rechargeable batteries and would prefer to have the battery run down before I recharge it. However, I am concerned that "fast-draining" will damage the battery. Thanks.

The battery will short circuit, get super hot, small chance of exploding, great chance of not working again. Just get a decent charger that will drain the batteries for you.

Do the Energizer AA NiMH's go above 1850mAH?

They have a gang of em on eBay selling for basically $2 ea.

Some of the auctions state 2100 or 2200mAH but the photos show 1850mAH

Anyone knows?

Startide, maybe next time, you could provide a bit more detail in your post and not be so vague on what you're tyring to say : )
Just kidding of course...this is a great post!!! I don't know much about rechargeable batteries but have been eyeing a digital camera recently and this post is a great help...THANK YOU!!!!!

Aloso...BatterySpace.com is carrying this 24-Pack NiMH Rechargeable Batteries for only 24.99

http://www.batteryspace.com/product.asp?3=246

Anyone know if this is a good deal and if the batteries are any good?

Sam's Club (warehouse store like Costco): -- Now carries AA 2100mAH EverReady cells in blister pack of two 4-cell packs for $15.87 (eight total cells).

What is amusing is that right next to the AA NiMH cells are the Lithium AA cells but higher priced at about $20. It says that the Lithium cells are not rechargeable, but if they were, that would be hot if you wanted long life and power in a AA cell.

Ahh, one day they will make a 10,000,000,000 mAH in a AA cell. If you shorted such a cell, it would have the power of a hand grenade though.

Bump for this thread. Bought some 2300 Mah batteries from BatterySpace today. I also see that Lion rechargable technology is now in standard cell size- but not standard voltage.

I have a design that uses a 3.6V AA lithium primary cell rated at 2400mah. That is 8.64 Wh or 3x the power density of AA NiMH cells.

At $6 each, they aren't cheap.
