WALL-E to be released on Criterion Collection Nov. 22
It's the first time a Disney or Pixar release has received the Criterion treatment. I'm surprised the list of extras doesn't include the Pixar short Presto, which was shown before Wall-E in theaters and has been included on previous disc releases.

Re: WALL-E to be released on Criterion Collection Nov. 22
I was just about to do this. I know we have a Criterion thread and UHD thread, but this is a big step for all companies involved and I think the occasional separate thread like this should be done to help put some attention on such things.
And I'll absolutely be getting this. |
Re: WALL-E to be released on Criterion Collection Nov. 22
I never purchased the 4k of this and was just recently thinking about how I should upgrade, so I'm in. Unfortunate that the short wasn't included. Criterion usually likes to include short films, so I wonder if Disney put a higher price tag on that as an extra or something similar.

Re: WALL-E to be released on Criterion Collection Nov. 22
I know it's one of the more recent ones, but I can definitely see Soul getting a Criterion release. Its plot seems to match well with other Criterion titles.

Hopefully in 3D, if they do that. Criterion has usually been about accurate presentation but they did release Flesh for Frankenstein in 2D before the modern 3D format existed.

Are we just going to pretend like the Armageddon and The Rock Criterions never happened?

14 and 21 years ago, yeah.

I believe Armageddon was 23 years ago. It wasn't even anamorphic!

That just isn't true. It came out in '99. It was one of Criterion's first releases from before they went anamorphic. By 2008 they were releasing blu-rays.
I used the date shown on Amazon for the Criterion DVD and didn't even realize it was so far off. |
Re: WALL-E to be released on Criterion Collection Nov. 22
I mean Buena Vista is owned by Disney but an animated Disney/Pixar film getting a Criterion release is notable. Might consider upgrading WALL-E.

It's too bad about the loss of Presto. It's pretty funny. It's on D+ along with other Pixar shorts. Not in 4K but still looks good in HD.

Not sure why Criterion would release it in 3D when it was never shown in 3D.

I was talking about Soul.
Armageddon was their last laserdisc, and it didn’t even have AC3 as it had two different commentary tracks instead! |

How long did it take for Criterion to even adopt 4k, which by all means Is still pretty niche, but you think they would do this in 3D? |

Who can forget about Chasing Amy? Wasn't that an early Disney Criterion?

Why would anyone waste money on 3D? For the 25 people in the USA who still use that feature?

Re: WALL-E to be released on Criterion Collection Nov. 22
I’m not sure how reliable this account is but I’m excited if it’s a true 4K remaster as the previous release was an upscale from a 2K.

Re: WALL-E to be released on Criterion Collection Nov. 22
Are we sure about that new 4K render? I thought there was something when it was first announced that they weren’t able to do that?

Re: WALL-E to be released on Criterion Collection Nov. 22
If the entire Disney catalog is open (hopefully true), get Leonard Maltin to introduce some stuff or host/be interviewed for special features down the line.
Disney really should have offered him a Disney+ show for all he’s done for the Treasures line. |

"thediscfather" is not a solid source on any of this stuff.
