RELEASE UPDATE!

Hey All ~ As always, we just want to take a second to say thank you so much for subscribing and continuing to support our releases. It means the world and we can’t wait to show you what we have coming up next!

Currently, we’re working on dropping our RUN AND KILL pre-order this month along with one other title we’ve yet to announce. That’s right! A surprise title! Once discs are finished being authored, we’ll drop art and feature details for each film.

In addition, we’ll have a few copies of our limited edition FATAL TERMINATION available when RUN AND KILL pre-orders go live, so for those who missed out, don’t resort to scalper prices just yet! Beyond that, we’ll have standard editions of FATAL TERMINATION available at some point.

As always, we’re hard at work on announced and unannounced films. We’re pushing to get a ton out next year, so hold tight. RED TO KILL is in the special feature stage and will be ready early 2024. CHALLENGE OF THE LADY NINJA, THRILLING BLOODY SWORD & IMPERIAL SWORD KILLING THE DEVIL are all being worked on as I type and should be finished by November, which means they’ll also be due in early 2024. All of these films look phenomenal. We’re incredibly proud. Check out some teasers and work-in-progress shots below!

Thanks! More soon!

Their latest newsletter also includes some uncompressed UHD screenshots, such as this one for Thrilling Bloody Sword:

Re: Error 4444 - the wild and obscure side of Asian cinema

I hope that SCISSOR PENIS isn’t representative of where this label is heading, especially at $36 a pop! The director of that, Naoyuki Tomomatsu, had an early hit in the gonzo pinky horror sexploitation genre with STACY all the way back in 2001, and has cranked out tons of similar pictures since then (this seems to be his final one), usually to diminishing creative returns and with an endless reliance on hardcore porn starlets who seem to be employed primarily because they’re already accustomed to having fluids all over them. I’ve also seen his ZOMBIE SELF-DEFENSE FORCE, VAMPIRE GIRL VS FRANKENSTEIN GIRL, and MAID DROID (all pre-2009) on older and much cheaper US DVD releases; they have their moments, but none were keepers. His later five-part LUST OF THE DEAD series – three of which have been released in the US as a trilogy – seem to be more known for their amazing posters than for their actual content. When you can Google just about any actress in SCISSOR PENIS plus the term ‘JAV’ and see countless multi-hour examples of them doing what they’re really known for – often involving nearly as much plot and dialogue – it’s easy to think twice about paying premium pricing for any of their side-gig projects like this one. This whole genre has been kinda tired out for ages now.

As for those RUN AND KILL variants, I’m not sure I understand what the deal is with ‘Side A’ and ‘Side B’ being two separately-priced items. Aren’t they just the reverse of each other on the same slip? Or perhaps they’ll reveal alternate sides for both later on? Regardless, I’m just glad that booklet cover art wasn’t used on the slips or sleeves. Both are kinda weak and don’t really ‘say’ anything about the film itself. Weird. Also, I’m pretty sure one of those slips is a massive spoiler – albeit one that the film is infamous for – so that’s a little disappointing.

I'm definitely going to pick-up Run and Kill (1993) but will pass on Scissor Penis(2019).

I have a few of Naoyuki Tomomatsu's films but on average I paid $1-5 dollars for them on DVD.

Same boat here. There was a LOT of that type of stuff released back in the DVD era (and not just his films). What titles I did buy were always reduced, even blowout prices at Best Buy, etc., because these are not films anyone truly collects. They’re curiosities. I waited to get them cheap so I could at least sample a reasonable cross-section and then sell them off. But once you’ve seen a few, you really have kinda seen them all, and I’m sure SCISSOR PENIS is no exception. Tokyo Shock and the other companies probably priced them in the $20-25 MSRP range, but few buyers probably paid that price since they’d end up discounted or double/triple-packed pretty quick. I’m just not sure these kinds of films are where a boutique label should be placing their bets nowadays, as the audience for gonzo-pinky movies is probably smaller they realize, and not likely to grow based on $36 limited edition Blu-rays. Besides that, Japan has cranked out sooo much of it over the years that very little stands out beyond the wild-sounding titles.

At least Category III Hong Kong titles (so far) have an edge in ‘collectibility’ now as they were rather scarce here during most of the DVD era because distributors were constantly focused on martial arts films. Stuff like RUN AND KILL and RED TO KILL could really only be accessed via the so-so Hong Kong DVD releases. Meanwhile, this schlocky J-horror stuff was in steady supply.

Re: Error 4444 - the wild and obscure side of Asian cinema

Specs and extras for RUN & KILL. No real surprises (and more ‘fan’ commentaries, yay), but the location featurette might be cool. Preorders start tomorrow (Friday, Oct 10). Looks like the slipcovers that confused me earlier are just two sides of the same slipcover. So presumably there’s just one version to order here:

-1x Double-Sided Slipcover w/ New Artwork by Matthew James & Vlad Rodriguez
-1x Booklet with Essay + Photos + Ad Artwork

Special Features
-Brand New 2K Restoration [91 mins.]
-Audio Commentary by Kenneth Brorsson & Philip Gillon of Podcast on Fire Network
-Audio Commentary by Bruce Holechek (Cinema Arcana) & Art Ettinger (Ultra Violent Magazine)

Re: Error 4444 - the wild and obscure side of Asian cinema

Just fyi that RUN AND KILL and SCISSOR PENIS are listed as 80-90% sold out. The smaller bundle of these two was sold out, but now isn’t, so, weird. The standard editions of ANATOMIA EXTINCTION, RED SPELL and CENTIPEDE HORROR seem to flip-flip between sold out and not sold old, so they’re available at the moment.

Re: Error 4444 - the wild and obscure side of Asian cinema

Their website has said “3 new releases coming soon” since the RUN AND KILL discs shipped. Assuming CRAZY FAMILY is one, I’m more keen to see if the others are any of the four vintage HK/Taiwan movies that have been listed as ‘coming soon’ for ages now.

Any idea of when a standard edition of Run and Kill (1993) will be available?

Re: Error 4444 - the wild and obscure side of Asian cinema

Late heads-up here, but the pre-orders for RED TO KILL went up fairly recently I guess. One version is already sold out, and the other is down to less than 30 copies. Not a fan of the artwork on either of the slips (although #1 was better) or the stickers, but they are what they are. Hopefully they use some original poster art, but if RUN AND KILL was anything to go on, I'm assuming they won't bother.

Red To Kill | 弱殺
(1994)
Director: Billy Tang

A social worker takes on the case of Ming-Ming, a mentally disabled young woman recently orphaned after her remaining parent is killed in a car accident. With the help of her social worker, Ming-Ming is admitted into a home for people with special needs, where the kind head of the home, Mr. Chan, takes a liking to the young lady. As Ming-Ming's situation seems to brighten up, a serial rapist terrorizes the building where the shelter is located, his M.O... women in red. One night, he suddenly sets his sights on Ming-Ming, and a horrific ordeal ensues.

Error 4444 first introduced fans to Billy Tang's demented oeuvre of exploitation and horror with RUN AND KILL (1993). Now, we bring to you the Blu Ray debut of RED TO KILL (1994), a rough piece of Hong Kong extreme cinema that is considered by many to be one of, if not, the most disturbing Category III rated film of all time.

RED TO KILL – Collector’s Edition NEW ART #2 Slipcover Limited to 750 Units

Limited Edition Contents:
-1x Double-Sided Slipcover w/ NEW Double Artwork from Oliver Costes
-1x Booklet with Essay by Tom Cunliffe
-3x Stickers w/ Art by Bryan E. West
-1x Reversible Artwork Blu Ray Sleeve
*Slipcovers Are Double Walled O-Cards 18pt Stock with Matte Finish and Spot UV Gloss*

Special Features
• Brand New 2K UNCUT Restoration [91 mins.]
• Audio Commentary by Bruce Holecheck (Cinema Arcana) & Art Ettinger (Ultra Violent Magazine)
• Wild Ratings: Talking Category III w/ Arne Venema & Mike Leeder of CFK [44 mins.]
• Video Essay by Jeroen Bijl (Horrible Reviews) [11 mins.]
• New English Subtitles
Version 2 artwork :

Also up for pre-order, more old Japanese weirdness:

CRAZY FAMILY (1984)

Incidentally, I picked up my copies of RUN AND KILL in the U.S. last weekend, and the package came with what appear to be identical additional sleeve inserts for them. I compared them with the case versions and couldn't see anything different — I thought there might have been a misprint or something, but couldn't spot anything different, and couldn't find any mentions online. Presumably they're just getting rid of print overruns? Anybody else get extras with their orders?
