Re: How many Criterion do you own?
Over 500.

Re: How many Criterion do you own?
I got every BD they released for their first year or so, so there are those minus a few that I sold. All of Kurosawa's stuff except for Ran, including Eclipse releases, and then a number of assorted ones over the years. Maybe 50 or 60 total.

Re: How many Criterion do you own?
Not a ton compared to a lot of people. More than I thought though. Pretty sure what I have listed are all I have. All are on Blu-ray.

Re: How many Criterion do you own?
A lot, including laserdisc, DVD, Blu, and 4K. Estimated north of 500 last I checked, including dupes on DVD and Blu.

Re: How many Criterion do you own?
Only my Blus now, but still a lot. Over 200 I would say…
|
Re: How many Criterion do you own?
157 blu and 45 dvd
It's far less than I would have guessed. Over the last 5 years other boutiques like Warner Archive, Twilight Time, Kino, 88 Films, Indicator and Eureka have taken a huge bite out of my Criterion purchasing. |
Re: How many Criterion do you own?
About 150, somewhere around there.
|
Re: How many Criterion do you own?
Zero.
Had about 40 or 50 on DVD and about 10 on Blu-Ray. Sold them all. |
Re: How many Criterion do you own?
61 (Not included the individual movies in the Lone Wolf/Cub-Bruce Lee boxsets)
Spoiler:

Re: How many Criterion do you own?
399 Criterions, mostly blu-rays. That includes sets like Bergman, Fellini, Olympic Films, Godzilla Showa-Era, etc... each of which have numerous films within them not counted in that overall total.

Re: How many Criterion do you own?
I have about 5 DVDs and maybe about 40-50 BDs that are Criterion. Not 100% sure.
The most recent ones I got were Love and Basketball and the Once Upon a Time in China set. It's not a label that I actively shop for. I'm pretty selective on what I want and what I think has replay value for me. |

Re: How many Criterion do you own?
This would make a good poll. Not sure what increments one would make the options be, but still, that could be fun.
I went to my shelves and was surprised I have exactly 20 DVD titles and 20 Blu-ray titles. The last DVDs I picked up were Cronos and Broadcast News when they were relatively new releases in 2011, which is when we also only had a Blu-ray player for maybe a year, if that, so I was still onboarding myself with transitioning to the new technology. I can see by the spine numbers below that I essentially went to getting new releases on Blu-ray only while not ever going back into the catalog (except when they finally brought Salesman to Blu-ray). The only title I remember buying as a preorder is Deep Cover in 2021. There are a few DVD titles I wouldn't mind owning on Blu-ray instead, but I'm honestly not sure how much difference the upgrade will make for something like, say, La Strada, nor how often enough I'd watch it to justify the extra purchase considering I don't even think I've watched it since we had kids. The only one I've bought twice is Seven Samurai. I had the original DVD, then the 3-disc collection. My only Criterion without a spine number is The Red Balloon, and I wish I'd gotten the Red Balloon / White Mane 2-pack that was only a dollar more at the time, oh well. Here they are my titles by spine number: DVD (20 titles): Spoiler:
BLU-RAY (20 titles): Spoiler:

Re: How many Criterion do you own?
I'm not a Criterion completist. I have, I'm guessing, three or four dozen at most. Only films I like. I don't understand the concept of buying a film sight-unseen simply because it was released by a certain company, but to each his own.

Re: How many Criterion do you own?
At least a hundred, maybe two hundred. I rarely buy discs these days but Original Cast Company, Before Trilogy, and Swing Time are semi-recent purchases.

I dumped off my collection because I wasn't as interested in physical media (ie. movies only viewed once, etc) and Criterions had more value and I wanted to get as much as I could at the time. I was looking to jump back in on very select titles when they jumped into 4K and the prices aren't ridiculous. Prices don't seem to be coming down even for BD discs, so I may never jump in. So in the meantime, I'm following/posting from a general interest - without actually buying anything for now. |
Re: How many Criterion do you own?
For the first 6 years or so of Criterion putting out BDs, I had 100% of their Blu-ray releases. I backed off that when I got married since I no longer had the time to watch them as voraciously as I had, and I had a backlog for the first time ever. I still pick up a fair number of their BDs, but I'm a long way from being a completist these days. I don't have a straight-up number to share, but I think it's a little north of 300 titles.

Re: How many Criterion do you own?
I got into collecting them right the years just before and after they went blu-ray, back in those sweet days of triple Barnes&Noble stacking coupons. Goal was to get them all, and at one point I had something like 500/550. Only buy a few a year since those days.

Figured it was more than that, but I used the list on Wikipedia instead of counting them on my shelves, so I might have forgotten a few. |
