About that phantom punch:

I'm assuming that was Coppola's decision to leave it. The main post was that even though Sonny landed a fake punch, he really did break a couple of Carlo's ribs. Those two didn't get along and Caan was a bit of a maniac in real life in those days.

If you pay close attention to most standard Hollywood fare from the 50s and 60s, the fights look ridiculously poor with plenty of missed punches and dodgy choreography. It's why Hong Kong cinema and their martial arts films quickly developed an immense fan base.

Yeah, I’ll stick with my DVDs for now. If I see a cheap Blu maybe I’d do that but really all I want is the saga version.

I just ordered the regular 4K set. I had no need for that oversized book, portraits and discs that you’ll have issues sliding out.

Nice. That drops my Pre-Order price even more.


I watched Jeff from the Films at Home YouTube channel's review of the set yesterday and he's very pleased with it. He actually said the new 4K transfers for 2 and 3 are even better than 1 even though 1 is good. And all the legacy bonus material is in this set, so you can feel free to dump your old ones including the new Part 3 BD that came out recently.

I can say the transfers are great. I'm not a fan of the digi-pak style packaging (like the original DVD release). Wish they had just gone with an HD keep case where one could hold all five discs. Issue is, if the cardboard gets damaged, I'm SOL (whereas a keep case gets damaged, I can order a new one to replace it).

I was hoping the discs would be separate from the book - funny how these "collector's" sets always manage to provide worse packaging than the standard releases, isn't it?

Yup, mine shipped too.

Since I just watched The Godfather last month at AMC Theatres, I will probably jump into the bonus material for it and then get into the restored part 2 and eventually 3.

Mine shipped over the weekend from Deep Discount - should be here this week. My AWIL which was also part of this order arrived today and I wasn't charged additional shipping for splitting the order.
