Definitely not worth avoiding because of that. Like I mentioned above, if slips don’t matter, then these prices are essentially the same as VS’s 50% sales and B&N has actually included new titles that would fall under VS’s ‘nothing newer than six months’ rule, which is a great bonus that I doubt we’ll see from VS in their upcoming sale. And who knows, despite the images on the B&N listings, everyone might still get slipcovers anyway, which is just gravy.

Personally, I only try to get slips / boxes on ‘keeper’ releases specific to me: Hong Kong movies (which are my big thing) and virtually all of the AGFA / Something Weird stuff that I’ve bought. For everything else, I’m fine with whatever I can get for the cheapest price, but I do understand why people go for them, especially as someone who eventually sells off of a lot of the VS and partner titles that I buy – those slip versions certainly do retain value. Sometimes shockingly so, considering how lazy and cheap a lot of their slip art often looks nowadays.

Hopefully anyone loading up in this sale doesn’t procrastinate, though. I’m seeing a number of titles that are already “temporarily” out of stock, which suggests OCN may have only made limited quantities available on a lot of stuff.

The ‘half-way’ sale is now on. Seeing some possibilities in the 60% category (personally speaking) for the first time in a while.

Some new VS titles are up as well.

NIGHTWATCH
THE MANGLER (glow in the dark)
ANYTHING THAT MOVES
THE BOYS IN THE BAND (Cinematograph)
HISAYASU SATO VOL. 4
WITHOUT APPARENT MOTIVE

Nice to see some more Shaw stuff that isn’t martial arts in KILLERS ON WHEELS. Plus that uncut (-eek-) HUMAN LANTERNS is a pleasant surprise, despite the artwork being pretty . . . oof.

I'll have to get ROLLS ROYCE BABY from Melusine. Lina Romay. Yum.

Took me a while to realize that new Delirium Home Video label is an offshoot of Charles Band’s Full Moon company. Most (all?) of their releases so far have been Jess Franco movies (ROLLS supposedly being a co-directing gig) that Full Moon distributed for years on DVD using their Dietrich prints, which I think Band owns the rights to. There were quite a few, including a selection of ten Franco discs where the spines of the cases created a ‘portrait’ of him when lined up side by side (pic below). ROLLS ROYCE BABY wasn’t one of those, but it was in the overall line, and I vaguely recall it having a few fleeting hardcore moments with Romay in it, so it makes sense that it’s on the Melusine side.

Full Moon would often steeply discount the Franco ‘bundle’ to some crazy price and I think it’s still in my watch pile a few years later, although I did grab LOVE LETTERS OF A PORTUGUESE NUN at the VS store after it sold out online. Not sure why some of these ‘sell out’ and others don’t considering so much of his stuff is kinda the same in many ways.

Franco DVD spines :) :

Too bad it wasn't Night Watch, the Timur Bekmambetov movie. The Mangler was another Stephen King adaption that disappointed me from what I remember since I never got it on home video in any format.

VS revealed some pretty awesome box packaging for the previously released VSU editions of Road House and Southern Comfort. If you dont have those releases already they would be worth buying.

It kind of frustrates me that I couldn't order original slipcase version of The Keep when it originally went up for sale cause it immediately sold out, settled for the standard version, and now they are selling the slipcase version again. That and the rerelease of Southern Comfort makes me not want to bother picking up standard versions now.

I missed out on the original Southern Comfort slip, but I think this new one is rather dull

I am debating the Road House one. I never bought the original deluxe edition that was released with the mini-book and felt I could leave without owning that particular movie, but I definitely have a little FOMO since missing out. I never really read those mini-books anyway if it is just essays or I read it once and then never look at them again.

Tempting.

I will say that I am perfectly fine with the 88 Films release of Human Lanterns from a few years ago. I don't know if I will order any of the new titles from this sale, I might pick up a few of the sale titles, but there is nothing that I feel that I need to jump on right now.

I looked in the out of print section and it looks like the VS 4k release of Road House is going out of print. I have it already and have bought it enough times but I wonder if it will get released again by another boutique label.
