I don't think this one's a VSU title with fancy packaging like Beastmaster and Six String Samurai, but Vinegar Syndrome is releasing Flesh for Frankenstein in 4K in November.

They've also hinted at Censor and New York Ninja, but haven't given any details on that just yet.

Censor is for sure coming:

VSP, in association with Magnolia Pictures, will present the world 4K UHD Home Video Debut of Prano Bailey-Bond's critically acclaimed, stunningly beautiful, and highly unnerving 35mm lensed psychological thriller, CENSOR, which includes stock footage from the Vinegar Syndrome vault including FROZEN SCREAM! VSP's deluxe and extra features packed UHD/Blu-ray special edition will be available for pre-order exclusively from VinegarSyndrome.com later this month, and will come housed in a limited edition rigid slipbox with newly commissioned artwork.

I can't find anything indicating whether or not New York Ninja will get a UHD release, but I'd be kind of surprised if it didn't, since it's the first in-house VS production. Their Black Friday pre-orders go up on Sept. 24th, so maybe we'll find out more then...?

re: The Official Vinegar Syndrome Thread

I would be very surprised of New York Ninja didn't make the cut to UHD. They're being pretty vague about its theatrical release, so I'm guessing it'll be one of the Secret Screenings at Fantastic Fest coming up soon, or something similar. If I remember the timeline correctly (HA! probably not!), they showed Tammy & The T-Rex at FF (not a secret screening) then announced the UHD a couple weeks later.

re: The Official Vinegar Syndrome Thread

Ended up placing an order for Flesh for Frankenstein and Censor. I'll hold off on the 'secret' UHD title until they announce what it is, because I didn't want to commit to buying it along with an unrelated Blu-ray. Hopefully I can still combine my shipping at that point, along with any October titles (announcing next week?) that get the UHD treatment.

Yeah, you'll be fine.

The Last Matinee will be a partner release for October, so if nothing else, I'll be ordering that.

There doesn't seem to be the sort of consensus that past clues have generated. (Heck, or even certainty about which country/region one of the hints is referring to!) A bunch of people are expecting The Invisible Maniac to be coming either next month or November, though.

re: The Official Vinegar Syndrome Thread

Well damn. Looks like New York Ninja will be BD only. From today's newsletter:

Our first VSP release NEW YORK NINJA is starting to play at cinemas across the United States (soon, the world!). And soon, you too will be able immerse yourself in the wonders of this long forgotten slice of no-budget 80s action via our upcoming VSU styled 2-disc Blu-ray set, which is slated to go up for order (and ship!) on November 1, exclusively at www.VinegarSymdrome.com.
I'll still be getting this, but that's kind of surprising, as I figured they'd go 4K with their own VSP line.

Dan 10-22-21 02:42 PM

re: The Official Vinegar Syndrome Thread

Censor is now a Blu-ray only release.

We regret to inform you that due to various logistical and technical issues outside of our control, we will be unable to release CENSOR on the 4K UHD format. CENSOR will be offered in a deluxe Blu-ray only edition with the same Black Friday release date.

I pre-ordered the UHD, so that email was certainly a disappointment.

The official word from Vinegar Syndrome as to why:

That's fine... Just a little odd that wasn't something they had looked into in advance of announcing the release. I'll keep my order, though.

I’m planning on it, but I figured I’d wait until I order my big stack of stuff in a couple of weeks.

I thought about waiting for the Black Friday sale but I wanted to get it sooner and it won’t be included with the sale so why not just order it now.

If you don't have a subscription, I'd say to save on shipping.

Dan 11-08-21 12:53 PM

re: The Official Vinegar Syndrome Thread

Yeah, you can only combine shipping during sales if you're not a subscriber. Subscribers can combine whenever they want. So I'm going to add Ticks and NY Ninja to my existing order when the sale starts, then binge watch all my new VinSyn titles in December.

I picked up the Tiger Claws trilogy. Not a terrible price for three films.

I never really follow these guys because this stuff isn’t really my cup of tea. Especially at these prices. I didn’t know they put out a Martial Law set last year. Completely gone now. Oh well.

There are four (!) presentations of the film: true 3D (yes, to answer your question), anaglyph 3D (glasses included), flat 1080p, and 4K/HDR. All four are a part of the 3-disc set linked below.

Yeah, I have it. These two films look better than they have any right to look  but yeah, they're a fun watch for what they are. I watched them along with the first Scanners flick.

I already spent $190 on this sale. I’m trying to keep my purchases to titles that dip below 1,000 unless it’s a title I’ve really been waiting for. Just saw Scanner Cop fell into the 900’s but I’m gonna roll the dice and hope it’s still around in six months.

Coincidentally, I was at nearly the exact same dollar amount but wound up pulling the trigger on the Scanner Cop double feature anyway. I was hoping to keep it under $200, but oh well.

I also bought Ticks, Trauma, New York Ninja, The Last Matinee, and Censor. It’s funny how I agonize over the price of so many other movies/box sets, but $38 for Ticks? Sure.

Vinegar Syndrome's site opens back up in 12 minutes! :)

We've been receiving a ton of emails related to the OOP VSA & AMITYVILLE (box) releases that are going to be available tonight at 12:01 AM EST. Here's some additional info:

1. Each release is limit 1 per customer.
2. Some VSAs will have multiple edition types available:
- Unnumbered 'Dashed' Edition = Blu-ray with an unnumbered slipcase
- Standard Edition = Blu-ray only (no slipcase)
- Hand Numbered Edition = Blu-ray with numbered slipcase (the regular version)
3. The "Add to my existing order" shipping option will not be active. If you want any of these low stock OOPs, place that order first, then be sure to check out all the brand new Partner Label and Vinegar Syndrome pre-orders.
4. Adding a product to your cart does not reserve the item, you must fully finish the checkout process.
5. The best way to find all of these will be in our 'Limited Editions (still in stock)' link located in the 'Releases' menu tab.
6. All VSAs will be $29.99 (with slipcase) or $24.99 for the standard edition. AMITYVILLE (box) = $59.99.

Here's a final tally of what we will have in stock tonight:

AMITYVILLE: THE CURSED COLLECTION (box) = 120
SAVAGE HARBOR: dashed=90, standard=38, hand numbered=0
EVIL TOWN: dashed=0, standard=40, hand numbered=0
DR. JEKYLL'S DUNGEON OF DEATH: dashed=138, standard=0, hand numbered=0
HELL RIDERS: dashed=130, standard=0, hand numbered=0
L.A. WARS: dashed=102, standard=0, hand numbered=0
SAVAGE DAWN: dashed=130, standard=50, hand numbered=0
MARTIAL LAW 1&2: dashed=160, standard=58, hand numbered=0
SPELLCASTER: dashed=81, standard=0, hand numbered=0
NECROMANCER: dashed=185, standard=5, hand numbered=0
ACTION USA: dashed=87, standard=0, hand numbered=0
THE HOUSE OF USHER: dashed=180, standard=13, hand numbered=50
CHAMPAGNE & BULLETS: dashed=0, standard=0, hand numbered=77

Thank you and Happy New Year!

As predicted all of the popular titles in that batch posted above sold out within minutes.

Out of those titles, (as I type this) only Necromancer, The House of Usher and Dr. Jekyll's Dungeon of Death are still available in some form.

I managed to get my order of Champagne & Bullets and L.A. Wars in though!

The Amityville Box Set probably sold out the quickest. I believe Martial Law 1/2 went within 5-6 minutes (both editions offered).

I'm so happy I managed to get Champagne & Bullets as well as L.A. Wars, as I didn't want to pay the absurd scalper prices on Ebay.

Try watching Don't Go into the Woods. VS put it out on blu-ray but I watched it on Tubi TV and it's not just bad. It's painful to sit through kind of bad.

Can you give a little bit more of a review? This was one I missed out on and was so close to buying. But it seems for every 10 VS releases, there are 9 turds and one diamond in the toilet. The trailer for Champagne looked so awesome but I have been burned by that so many times that I eventually passed on it. L.A. Wars was pretty disappointing as a whole despite some awesome trailers. I also feel the same about the Rudy Ray Moore stuff and many others. You see all the great stuff in the trailers but watching them as a whole just feels like a severe waste of time (for me...just my opinion).

I forget: have you seen Action USA? (If you missed out on the VSA release, MVD put out their own edition.) That’s a case where I felt like the entire movie lived up to the trailer.

Well, it is basically a vanity project for a guy that paid for, directed and starred in his own movie. He can't act, his singing in worse than cringeworthy, and the script is a steamer. However, if you like movies that are terribly made and don't mind overacting or adlibbing lines that make no sense, then this might be for you. I have a friend that enjoys b-movies or worse and suggested this one to him. He said that he had already seen it and loved it. It's hard to know where you might fall in this.
