I'm in the process of selling all of my Arrow titles, except for The Funhouse - it's a wonderfully stacked disc with a very nice transfer. I've watched the film a half-dozen times (plus the commentaries) since buying it.

My review, is specifically about this Steelbook version of the films. Sadly, this release has a couple of issues fans should be made aware of:

1) Partway through DEMONS, there is a break in the film, and an on-screen title comes up that says "End Of First Half", before continuing on with the rest of the film. This moment occurs, as the cinemagoers destroy the projection booth, and stop the film they've been watching from being projected. This issue does NOT exist in other versions of DEMONS I've seen, so I am a little shocked about this moment appearing in this release. It really breaks the tension of the moment, and it's a shame that Arrow have decided to include this in their version of the film. There's no real point or purpose, and it takes viewers out of the enjoyment of the movie.
The rest is bitching and moaning that the steelbook releases drops all of the physical bonus material (i.e. the comics), but a poster on Blu-ray.com also confirmed the random break in the film.

I think that news alone has confirmed I'm going to cancel my orders for the single releases and stick with the steelbook alone as it'll save me $10.

I don't believe for a second that Arrow is gonna let another apparent mistake slip through after a two year process to get this film onto Blu-ray. If that does happen, Arrow is officially DONE as a company.

Re: The Official Arrow Blu-ray Thread

Don't most films in Italy have intermissions still do this day? If it's an Italian Print of the film that would be accurate to the original version.

That seems to be the case.

Re: The Official Arrow Blu-ray Thread

For those getting the individual releases, Demons and its sequel is now delayed to May 14th.

The steel book still comes out next week.

Lady Snowblood 1 & 2 coming in September! (9/24/12)

Region B Locked

I haven't bought any Arrow releases since their early ones, I (still) hope they don't botch this one.

They're also releasing some Troma trash, but the less said about that the better.

Excellent news on both Lady Snowblood titles.

Now, for my lazy ass to get a region-free player.

Well, I've just placed an order on a new region free Oppo player, so I'll certainly look into these.

It's worth the 80 bucks or whatever it is that the Insignia models go for at Best Buy. Imagine enjoying the hi-def glories of They Live, The Howling, Rolling Thunder, The Innocents, Touch of Evil or uh, a Demons double-feature? Not to mention the huge collection of Hammer titles being prepped.

ROLLING THUNDER actually works on my Panny BD-60 - it's next on my UK order list

I will say that if they no longer have any left, according to the Shout Factory thread, they licensed the Blu-Ray rights from Universal (along with other films such as Halloween II and III), so if you can't get a region free copy, it's likely that we'll have a decent release here. With that said, the Arrow release is that damn good, so if you have the opportunity to get it, I would.

Spoiler:
Assuming those are Region Free, I'm sure those'll be good for those whom have been waiting for Troma to get around to release their own films on Blu-Ray for some time...

Re: The Official Arrow Blu-ray Thread

FYI, the Troma releases from Arrow will be region free. The bonus material has already been announced for Class of Nuke 'Em High:

  • High Definition Blu-ray and Standard Definition DVD transfer of the unrated Director's Cut of the film
  • Audio commentary with Troma Studios founder and Class of Nuke 'em High co-director Lloyd Kaufman
  • Interview with stars Robert and Jennifer Prichard
  • Theo Pingarelli on the making of the nuclear power plant effect
  • Troma Studios tour with Llloyd Kaufman
  • Public Service Announcement by Lemmy from Motörhead featuring Trey Parker and Matt Stone, creators of South Park
  • Aroma du Troma
  • Troma Studios Trailer Reel
  • Reversible sleeve with original poster and newly commissioned artwork by Graham Humphries
  • Collector's Booklet by critic and author David Hayles
  • Region ABC
That being said, depends on where one looks, one can score the Troma Blu-ray release for pretty cheap which contains the same bonus material, plus more (deleted scenes).

Would that mean Ashes and Diamonds is today's title? I see it's £6.99 on their website right now.

Re: The Official Arrow Blu-ray Thread

I was just shocked that it wasn't a title I already owned. I ordered it. I considered ordering the Kentucky Fried Movie, but since I own the U.S. dvd I would be ordering it just for the packaging so I passed.

Because I sent my e-mail in before the deadline on the BOGO sale, their rep said I can still get in on the sale and that they had a couple of copies of the Region Free version of "The Funhouse". I hope they are worth the blind buy.
