Star Wars isn't for children. It's all-ages entertainment.

There were shitloads of teenagers and adults who went to see the original trilogy between 1977 and 1983.

It's the kind of thing that a child can enjoy on one level, and an adult can enjoy on another.

The OT definitely looks great and sounds amazing on Blu-ray.

Does Lucas really resent it? I know he's been dismissive of TESB thinking people just like it because it's dark (which is baloney). It is dark, but that's because our heroes are facing real challenges. He also hated that it went over budget. He always seemed to be a businessman first, artist second.
I'm too lazy to research all the quotes, but I've always gotten the impression that he does kinda resent people fawning over Empire. It's definitely more of a recent thing (that is the last 15-20 years), but maybe I'm just reading too much into it.

Glad you like them, but those Blu Rays were mediocre at best when they were new, and pretty well unacceptable in 2020. The detail has been completely wiped out by the Lowry machines, colors and contrast barely resemble the originals, and there are all sorts of sloppy spot corrections done to fix crap people were complaining about when the DVDs were first released. The 4ks are a massive improvement over the blus, even if they themselves are just mediocre.

Yeah, but it was the young children who bought (or whose parents bought) the action figures, coloring books, bed sheets, lunchboxes, and Underoos. The licensing for all that stuff is where Lucas made his billions.

If I didn’t have Disney+ I’d consider it.

Of course I never bought the first Blu-ray release for the principle so I feel like I would do the same in this case.

I passed too because Disney + kind of makes me not want to buy anything physical that is going to be on there. Especially since this set doesn't have much (anything?) new in terms of bells and whistles.

These transfers are fucking fantastic. As much as the new scenes make me throw up in my mouth a little, the original, which is most of the movie, the transfer and 6.1 is fantastic. Just wish they had some extras on movie discs besides commentaries...

What’s even sadder is remembering what’s added and what’s not.

Rouge One was the first and only time the term was used on screen. It was also used in the Clone Wars animated series.

No, but we read about "kaiburr" crystals in the late 70's with the novel Splinter of the Mind's Eye. It was meant to be a low budget TV follow up to the original movie if it didn't do well. So, it's been in the background lore for a while, but not really shown until recent times.

Yeah, it goes back to the pre-Disney EU video games, novels, comic books, and the Tartakovsky Clone Wars series. They were, I believe, first dropped into regular canon in the Clone Wars CGI series (before the Disney buy-out, when the EU was still sort of canon), and the appearance in Rogue One was the first use in live-action.

Oh, I should mention I did make a Star Wars purchase recently - last weekend we hit a couple thrift stores and I stumbled upon the DVD box set of the 2 disc SE+UOT trilogies. Only $2.99 and now I have the original versions on disc.

Wow. It wasn’t even one Nooo it was two. Ugh. I think this was ok, but down from 5 to 4/3.5 to be honest. I’ve been disinterested in regenerated IV plot. But still amazing movie.

The individual 4K releases are $14.99 on Amazon. Pretty good price on them. Tempted to pick up the prequels.

Edit: I guess it’s not all of them. Looks like The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, Solo, and The Last Jedi are the only ones in stock.

Best Buy has every Star Wars 4K title in-stock at $14.99 (except the last one, which is $19.99)

No. Check back in 30 years, after all the current powers-that-be in Lucasfilm and Disney have died off. Maybe something then.

You know about the old DVD release with the laserdisc transfers, right? That was several years ago, but they show up here and there. I just found a set for $3 at a thrift store the other day.

Otherwise, what Josh Z said.

So, any suggestions for a type and model of external hard drive to download the Harmy editions and similar fan recreations onto?

I'm kind of a Western Digital loyalist, which of their products might give me the best bang for my buck in this situation?
