Do you still blind buy movies? (Physical media and digital)
Simple question. Do you blind buy movies? Physical media or digital
I see many here say that they never rent and just "buy it" even if they've never seen it. So do you or not? |
Re: Do you still blind buy movies? (Physical media and digital)
I do all the time, I buy based on whos in the cast not what its about and I tend to never watch trailers so I kinda go in blind with mostly everything still.

Re: Do you still blind buy movies? (Physical media and digital)
Depends on the cost and if it was something we wanted to watch.
|
Re: Do you still blind buy movies? (Physical media and digital)
More so with digital than physical, but I might get something interesting from Twilight Time. |
Re: Do you still blind buy movies? (Physical media and digital)
Cheap or used stuff, sure, if it's something I've at least heard about.
But I don't buy much media anymore anyways. |
Re: Do you still blind buy movies? (Physical media and digital)
Often. Since my price point has stayed a consistent $1-$10, blindbuys that fail don’t hurt too much.
|
Re: Do you still blind buy movies? (Physical media and digital)
A huge percentage of what I grab are blind buys. |
Re: Do you still blind buy movies? (Physical media and digital)
Yes, most of the purchases are blind buys. I don't see near as many movies in the theater any more. And I already have most of the ones that I've seen that I would re-watch.

Re: Do you still blind buy movies? (Physical media and digital)
Overall I buy less, but I still blind buy movies that seem interesting to me. |
Re: Do you still blind buy movies? (Physical media and digital)
No since I have been burned in the past and there are not a lot of movies I think I might want to own these days plus most blu-rays are over $20 during the first week of release.
Maybe Dumbo 2019 was the last blind buy |
Re: Do you still blind buy movies? (Physical media and digital)
The last Blu-ray I blind bought was a Aquaman. I needed up really like it. Overall, my blind buys have dropped dramatically, to the point of being almost non-existent.
Nowadays it’s a lot easier to drop $3-$5 to stream a new release through Amazon than it is to pay $15-$20 for a Blu-ray. |
Re: Do you still blind buy movies? (Physical media and digital)
>90% of the ones I buy from Dollar Tree are blind buys. And since I don't see a lot of movies in the theater anymore most of the others I buy are blind too.
I mostly buy digital now including buying a second hand code. And besides no one has time to watch old movies anymore either... ;) |
Re: Do you still blind buy movies? (Physical media and digital)
Only foreign movies that I have read good reviews on that won't be available in the U.S. until later.
|
Re: Do you still blind buy movies? (Physical media and digital)
Only for older or foreign films that might not be available to stream anywhere.
|
Re: Do you still blind buy movies? (Physical media and digital)
I always open my eyes and see everything when I pay for the movies... so no I don’t blind buy. :p |

Poll needs an option for "Some, but not as many as I used to."

Re: Do you still blind buy movies? (Physical media and digital)
The more I think about this, I imagine more than 99% of my film purchases have been blind buys.
|
Re: Do you still blind buy movies? (Physical media and digital)
yeah i still blind buy movies for DVD releases along with movies for blu ray.
Past few days ago I pretty much blind bought Bone Tomahawk for DVD from Walmart. Never seen it before |
Re: Do you still blind buy movies? (Physical media and digital)
I still make many blind buys. Depends on how much interest I have in the premise and/or cast, though these days I can usually wait for a move to hit some streaming service I subscribe to.

Re: Do you still blind buy movies? (Physical media and digital)
Maybe we should have a blind buy recommendation thread? Should I get “That Sinking Feeling” (1979) or “The Virgin Suicides” (1999)? |

When DVDs dropped, I was a voracious collector and a lot were blind buys. After massive donating 10 years ago, I still have mountains of the things... With a few exceptions, I doubt I will ever again watch any of them again. Almost the same scenario is playing out with BDs. The difference being I am keeping most of them. I have been replacing some of my catalog with 4K releases. However, I am only doing so with my super-duper fav movies that I can't resist upgrading. The rest will be with me for the long haul. |
Re: Do you still blind buy movies? (Physical media and digital)
I would say blind buys (mostly from boutique labels) still make up the majority of my purchases. I tend to primarily buy catalog releases and at this point have a pretty good sense of what I will or will not like. I certainly don't bat 1.000, but I still get a thrill out of seeing and living something new. It would probably be much cheaper to stream, but I just can't get over the hurdle of 'buying' something that I don't actually own and that must exist in a specific digital ecosystem. Renting probably makes sense, but I prefer the freedom to watch whenever I feel moved and not be tied to a limited rental window.

Re: Do you still blind buy movies? (Physical media and digital)
Most of my blind buys are cheap, used movies. In the early 2000s I remember being faced with the decision of renting a new release for $5 or just buying it for $20.
What if I rent it, like it and want to buy it? In a sense, it ends up costing $25. That logic served-up several regrettable blind buys. |
