V: The Original Miniseries --> Blu-ray --> 9.27.19

So, i know people know about this miniseries that was on tv ages ago. i actually saw it and it's sequel and loved it to bits. i believe this is the first time in HD. i have the SD on Vudu, but that's it. this also has a commentary by director Johnson and a 25 minute behind the scenes.

can't wait!

just hope this sells enough to put out The Final Battle as well. wish they were doing them together, but would love to have that grand finale (imo) in HD as well, with any extras...

Don't forget the camptastic spinoff series that aired for one season. That still has one of my favorite dialogue exchanges of all time:

Lydia: "I've never been defeated in mortal combat."
Diana: "Idiot! If you had, you'd be dead!"

Kenny Johnson was at Comic Con promoting this new release along with Marc Singer.

He's still trying actively to get his V feature film made, but it has to be made with independent financing.

I met Kenny once 7-8 years ago. Really nice man and he's very passionate about V.

I have V, V the final battle and V the TV series all on DVD. I might consider this HD, widescreen upgrade.

I have to forget the craptastic, short lived one season. I don’t acknowledge and want to keep it that way. That entire original and final battle miniseries thrilled me as kid. Even had to leave football practice early so I can see it. True story. Still thrills me as I have watched it (not in some time, but again not in the too distant past). The two miniseries were perfect and great for that time and still enjoyable today. I too have both DVD series’, but no idea where. I do remember they are in one of those awkward snapcases. For both, I think. No extras, though, I believe. Even 1 on this is a win. Seeing them in HD will be amazing...

Kenny is a great guy. I interviewed him about 15 years ago, and we've been pen pals/email pals ever since, although it's probably been about five years since I've chatted with him.

For those "not in the know", Kenny had NOTHING to do with "V: The Final Battle" (which he hated) or the TV series that followed (or the recent TV reboot for that matter).

Those wanting to read Kenny's own sequel to the original mini-series can check out this book (it's quite good):

I was a kid at the time. My grandmother was babysitting and I was not allowed to stay up late, but I was determined to watch the show. I had a tiny black and white TV in my bedroom with a headphone jack. So I sat about two feet away from the screen and watched it with one mono earphone. If I heard my grandmother walking down the hall, I'd reach over and turn down the brightness so I could still hear it but she wouldn't see the glow under my door. :)

If you're going to write off the spinoff series (which I get), you should probably write off The Final Battle as well, because that really does not hold up.

I enjoy the whole thing, though clearly the original miniseries was significantly better than anything that came after it.

your experience is too funny. but, yeah it wasn't as good, but i still enjoyed the hell out of The Final Battle. the actual series was nothing like either mini and i don't remember a thing from it or care to.

V is one of those special things from my childhood. I'll be upgrading to the BD for sure.

Loved V back in the 80s but I am afraid watching it again will undermine my nostalgic memories of it.

I’m worried about that too.

Watching the recent remake on cable and not digging it much.

The special effects are very primitive, but the first miniseries holds up very well, I think. The Final Battle less so, and the TV spinoff is a big cheesefest.

The reboot was not very good on the whole. It was only fitfully entertaining. However, by the time the series finale came around, the writers said "F--- it" and decided to go full camp. I'm not sure it was worth slogging through two seasons to get to it, but that part was kind of a blast.

I tried to explain just how batsh-t crazy that episode was in my recap from the time. This is loaded with spoilers, obviously:

I'm trying to recall if these were released on the dreaded DVD-18 format and I'm kind of afraid to go check as I imagine they're toast by now if they were. Oh well, time to upgrade.

The only experience I have with the franchise was the reboot that was canned after two seasons. I liked it though. Laura Vandervoort is cute.

I wonder if it plays better now given the current political environment. There's a whole anti-science/anti-press theme running through it.

It will be interesting to see whether or not it ages well with the new transfer to BLU. Some of the things that I thought were brilliant as a younger person have not held up over a long span of time.

Damn it's been years. I don't remember much about V the original series. Except Diana gulping down a rat and the baby sticking out it's lizard tongue.

I was a huge fan of V. It would be great to visit it again with such clarity.

I cannot wait for this. Hopefully the Final Battle will come out soon as well.

I would even buy the series.

Corny as hell but I love this series and hope the transfer looks great. There is a lot of detail that was lost in the televised version.

Amazon telling me this and new Godzilla still has no release date ship. It’s supposed to come out Tuesday. Amazon lists as Tuesday. But my order still shows no delivery or release. Odd, no?

In fact V listing pulled from Walmart site and Godzilla 3D out of stock at Best Buy. And no ship date on Amazon either even though lists as Tuesday. I’m so confused.
