The Digital Bits posted a blurb about this.

The above is reportedly the "leaked" artwork for the new Disney re-releases of the entire saga up to now.

A 4K UHD release is supposedly also in the works for 2020.

I saw when these went up on Amazon and got excited for a minute because I thought it was for the original versions of the OT. Oh well.

They’re just to have something new on the shelves for the new movie.

I kinda dig the presentation though, if I had been waiting to buy I’d be grabbing these.

I’ve still held strong on not buying any Star Wars until we get proper releases of the original Original Trilogy. I will say though that I like the presentation for these releases. Very nice and uniform looking.

I've got them all on digital. The only thing I'd buy again on BR or 4K is the original unedited trilogy.

Re: Star Wars saga -- Disney BD re-release

Why bother with this if 4K is coming in 2020?

But maybe this BD/DVD re-release is from the new 4K masters.

I'd guess Disney takes away Fox opening from I-III and V-VI like with the digital copies.

4K or bust.

First time the OT or PT releases come with digital copies , FWIW.

Add me to the list of those still waiting for the OOT.
I don’t have 4K yet, but next year I’m probably gonna finally move on from my Panasonic plasma. That would be a great first purchase.

Re: Star Wars saga -- Disney BD re-release

I'm guessing they will probably do a 4K release of these movies when episode 9 comes out to home video around April-ish 2020.

Re: Star Wars saga -- Disney BD re-release

D23 is later this month and should have more details.

I already have the digital copies on iTunes. So they gotta release the OOT.

I'll wait for that.

Will new cover art make The Last Jedi less shitty?

Did Lucasfilm ever finish converting the OT films to 3D? Too bad those were never released.

I don't think they ever started on the OT. The Phantom Menace was released to theaters and Attack Of The Clones was shown at one of the Celebrations not sure it Revenge Of The Sith was also or not.

Just cave in since that is never going to happen

I don''t see how these releases will be better than the other editions?

Ah, my bad. That's right, they began with the prequels. I wonder where they stopped.

Re: Star Wars saga -- Disney BD re-release

Are they selling these individually, or is it 1 big boxset? I only want 4,5,6,7,8 as I like the new cover art, and I'm OCD so I've been waiting for a uniform set by Disney.

Re: Star Wars saga -- Disney BD re-release

Those covers are really blah. Monochromatic, floating heads, big black border taking up real estate. They look like they're just going to blend in with all of the other shit on the shelves. They're almost as bad as the ST:TNG blu-rays.

I have waited. I can't cave in because I have zero interest in rewatching the revised versions.

It sucks but at least there are quality bootlegs out there of the OOT.

Mike86 08-10-19 09:59 PM

Re: Star Wars saga -- Disney BD re-release

Yeah, I have a place I could readily get the unaltered versions on disc. Haven’t broke down on them yet but I might.

I just find it dumb that the unaltered versions can’t be offered alongside the special editions. There’s really not a reason for it other than stubbornness.

DJariya 08-10-19 11:47 PM

Re: Star Wars saga -- Disney BD re-release

According to Amazon, these come out next month.

Ans yes yes they are sold individually. Pre orders are now available.

Well, they did also release the OOT on DVD in 2006 as a "special feature" for another special edition re-release (https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Ori...ltered_trilogy). I've kept those. Sure, they aren't uber cleaned up like a blu but, to be honest, it's how I remember them as a kid and I kinda' dig the little blemishes. Anywho, the OOT official release is out there. I just paired them with the Complete Saga Blus, kept Empire of Dreams from a previous release, got R1, Solo and the new trilogy seperate and that's my uber edition on my self. :p

Eh. Cool they finally come with digital codes now that’s Disney owns Fox but I bought these digitally years ago.

And I doubt the Original unaltered trilogy will ever see release unless Lucas dies. It’s almost 2020 and the amount of people who would still buy them (or even care) gets smaller every year. Maybe a D+ release. Gotta imagine they would have to restore all three movies and that’s gotta cost some serious bucks

And yet every year plenty of older, more obscure and far more problematic (from a restoration perspective) films get loving restorations. None of which are owned by a literal money factory like Disney. I've never bought the cost excuse. It is and always has been about the desire (or lack thereof) to actually do it.
