An American Werewolf in London - third time's the charm?

So, that's a special edition. Coming in October from Arrow:

One of the greatest directors of the 1980s, John Landis (The Blues Brothers, Trading Places), expertly combines macabre horror with dark humor in the lycanthropic classic, An American Werewolf in London.

American tourists David (David Naughton) and Jack (Griffin Dunne) are savaged by an unidentified vicious animal whilst hiking on the Yorkshire Moors. David awakes in a London hospital to find his friend dead and his life in disarray. Retiring to the home of a beautiful nurse (Jenny Agutter, Walkabout) to recuperate, he soon experiences disturbing changes to his mind and body, undergoing a full-moon transformation that will unleash terror on the streets of the capital…

An American Werewolf in London had audiences howling with laughter and recoiling in terror upon its cinema release. Landis’ film has gone on to become one of the most important horror films of its decade, rightly lauded for its masterful set-pieces, uniquely unsettling atmosphere and Rick Bakers’ truly ground-breaking, Oscar-winning special makeup effects. Now restored in 4K, and presented with an abundance of extra features, this big beast of horror can be devoured as never before…

Odd that the pub-man makes the cover instead of the doctor! Very tempting release. I'll likely bite.

I'm a sucker for this film so I'll probably pop for this- though I know full well a 4K release is just around the corner too.

That looks like an awesome set. I never upgraded to BD. I still have the old Unversal SE DVD from years ago.

These limited Arrow gift boxsets are usually of pretty awesome quality, so I'll feel more than comfortable getting this at release.

I donít need all the postcards etc. but the new extras sound great and I only own this on DVD. If they do a disc only version Iíd jump ... if not, Iíll probably still jump.

There are a lot of people bitching & moaning about it being DNR'd to death. I say bullshit.
The screencaps are misleading. Like Jaws, there is some grain management at work, but what's left is a huge uptick in high frequency detail over the noisy, far more EE'd earlier release.
It will be interesting to see a comparison between it and the new arrow. I'm expecting a situation similar to the remastered Saturday Night Fever, which most people feel is more natural, but which also looks much softer and less resolved in caps compared to the (slightly) sharpened original release. But people will fall all over themselves praising it- and two years later tell us all how much better the UHD is.

I'm a sucker for limited ed packaging, especially with a nice book(let), so looks like I'll be buying this yet again.

I love this movie with all my heart. I love Arrow Special Editions.

I will wait for the 4K release and keep my current BD copy.

I gotta draw the line somewhere with Blu-ray double dipping. Hate for it to be this, I’ll wait for 4K.

Hell no, this movie deserves it's own thread and edition such as this one. I'm all over this. I'll be all over the 4K when/if Universal ever decides to release it.

I'm guessing this will be between $27-35 when it comes out. Hell, the Waterworld Arrow set has an MSRP of $50 and was selling for mostly $35 at Amazon. I managed to get Waterworld for $22 at B&N.

I only paid about $10 or less for the previous BD released in the States, so depending on reviews, I might pick this up.

Time to upgrade my 13 year old HD DVD I guess (it's a flipper, so god knows if it still even plays properly anyway!).

I got WW for like $14 with credits. They are awesome sets. Grateful for my small collection. If this has new restoration and new extras and similar price to WW when first able to preorder, then maybe my mind can change. Actually a lot of new extras and lengthy. Now it’s a must. Someone please let me know when avail for preorder at Amazon...
