Re: The One and Only Kino Lorber and Olive Films Blu-Ray Thread
So why do some KL titles get great extras and some are barebones? it seems some get none and some get a good treatment. why is that?

Re: The One and Only Kino Lorber and Olive Films Blu-Ray Thread
Kino Lorber’s response:
We reached out to Mr. Lynch via email to oversee and color grade a new 4K transfer (from the original camera negative) and get his approval on the dozen or so extras we had planned to include. Once we knew he was not interested in working with us, we had no choice, but to go ahead with the current Universal master and the few extras we had already produced and acquired. To our surprise, the master in question was a very good one, so we were happy to release it with some extras. We found out later that the extras and packaging also had to be approved by him (not the norm) and we sent email after email without one response. We delayed the release by a month, hoping we could at least get him to approve the trailer, the essay and our packaging, at this point we knew the interview and commentary were not possible, but after a few more weeks, we dropped the essay, the trailer and changed our front art to the previously approved DVD art. The BD only includes the film on a dual-layered BD50 disc, maxing out the feature at 30mbps with 5.1 surround and 2.0 lossless audio. We were planning to take the high road and not play the blame game, but after his tweet this weekend, we felt like we had to respond.
We’re still huge David Lynch fans and are proud to release one of his masterpieces on Blu-ray.

Re: The One and Only Kino Lorber and Olive Films Blu-Ray Thread
Kino says Lynch ghosted them.
Deming says Kino ghosted him.
It's all a damn shame.
I wonder if the Kino version is therefore identical to the HDX version on Hulu. I'm pretty sure that one's not the MK2 master on all the non-USA BDs...

The statement from Kino says they got the master from Universal. Presumably, it's the one from the old DVD edition, which was indeed different than the MK2 master.

Lynch being Lynch...he wants to be paid to approve a new master. KL didn't want to play that game with him, because frankly they don't have deep pockets like Universal and/or Criterion.

Most directors take a fee when personally "supervising" a video release. If not directly, in the form of payment for an audio commentary or the like.

Re: Is David Lynch Done With Making Films?
I just read a review on a well-known review website that raves about the video on this Kino release...go figure.
Nonetheless, I'll wait to see if Lynch actually does put out a release based on the "original negative" before springing for the Kino.

I got it yesterday ...watched it a bit ago....and I'm still recovering. The movie looked quite nice upscaled on my 4k with Xbox One S . Lynch's complaints are simply him whining, and if he had anything to do with the scrapping of what extras they did have then shame on him.

I’m glad I have digital. Only way to go with this no extras crap. Lynch clearly wants only Criterion. Too bad. What is 3 years how long they own rights to movie? Can’t Criterion buy it from them? For hefty price, I assume...

Amazon has it back in stock. I got my copy today and watched it tonight. It was ok. Great film but the transfer is a mixed-bag and is definitely not reference material or anywhere near it. The soundtrack is bumps, though.

Re: The One and Only Kino Lorber and Olive Films Blu-Ray Thread
I guessed right. When I bought the KL it was a blind buy and I love the movie. I wouldn't mind upgrading when Criterion eventually releases on Blu/4k.
