It looks great cinematically but maybe it is all style and no substance like Mary Poppins Returns.

This had to be a huge disappointment for Disney. I was slightly interested in seeing it, but never got around to it. Looks like it lost money too. I think Disney marketed this way too early and by the time it came out no one cared. Plus, the ho-hum critical reviews didn't help.

When I do get Disney Plus in the Fall, I will probably watch it on there.

Maybe Tim Burton was the wrong guy to direct this

From the Disney corporate perspective, I can see why he seemed like the right choice. His Alice in Wonderland had been a huge, huge hit, and the pink elephants scene in the original was definitely a big influence on Burton's filmmaking. On paper, the two things must have seemed to mesh perfectly.

The problem with the movie is that they made it all about the human characters who don't even exist in the original film. Who asked for this? It's the most drastically different film of all of the live action remakes of Disney classics. It didn't capture the imagination of kids and alienated fans of the original.
