Their special edition of Martin (though Blu-ray only there) might be of interest. It was slated to come out the same time; not sure if that plan has changed.

I love their release of Anna and the Apocalypse.

This is up on Zavvi. I’ve never purchased anything from them before, but I had to take the risk.

Base currently has it as the cheapest to USA buyers and it doesn't charge you until it ships. Came out to about $87 and some change shipped to the USA for me:

Oooof, $119 shipped to the US using the US version of Zavvi's site (with tax and shipping costs). I bit the bullet seeing as how Amazon.co.uk isn't currently shipping certain items (like the Jodorowsky set) to the US. I'll cancel and re-order from somewhere else if a better deal for US buyers comes along in the next 7 days.

I ordered, but I'm honestly on the fence and may cancel if a streamlined release with just the three movie discs is announced later. I don't need the soundtrack CDs, oversized box, book, or other bric-a-brac.

My fear is that an eventual standard release may not have all three cuts of the movie.

I like the bric-a-brac. I also appreciate the jibba-jabba.

  • Monroeville Mall commercial, Monroeville Mall tour and a bunch of galleries from the Ultimate Edition DVD. Also, not sure if the Super 8 mall footage is the same as the on-set home movies
  • Fan of the Dead and Tom Savini's Scream Greats from the Arrow set
  • In Conversation with George Romero at MIFF from the AU BD
  • Basically all of the stuff from the Italian Zombi 4K set
Also I'm not sure which cut of Document of the Dead is The New Cut, the 1989 video version or the 2012 Definitive version, or maybe another new version?
It's certainly not definitive because it doesn't include the 156-minute "extended mall hours" cut! However, we have an acceptable quality version of the mall hours cut already released in Germany in 1080p, and the file is decent bitrate. Something like 35 - 36 GB for the 156 minute cut.

But, it will be an astounding release. If any release could finally tempt me over the edge to OLED and 4k UHD, this will be the one! Regardless, I'm going to risk a preemptive at the base.com link above (thanks!) and see if I can actually secure a copy for $87. I don't like all the bric-a-brac, either, but can't risk losing out on this by waiting for a streamlined release without all the crap. In any event, I'm sure I'd be able to sell my copy for $100+ if a cheaper, movie-only release comes along in 18 - 24 months.

Just locked it in. Can’t wait. But, how’s it only $2.00 USD for shipping? Either way, can’t fucking wait!

$2 shipping? You mean 2 Pounds for shipping, which is more than the USD. This is Pound Sterling.

Which edition are you ordering? The 4K or the BD set? Also, which vendor are you getting it from?

I wonder if this will see a US release eventually. Also as cool as the big box looks I’d prefer a stripped down version with just the discs. Otherwise for now I have the Anchor Bay Blu-ray, which is fine for me as I don’t get the urge to watch this movie a whole bunch anyways.

I'm going to be stuck with a faux 4K projector for many years yet. No sense in future proofing as by the time I could truly appreciate them a much cheaper disc only package should be available. If I felt I needed it that bad.
Unlike most people, it's actually the CDs and extra swag that is the big motivator for me in this case. SS has done stellar jobs on all the other Bds I have, so I'm not worried about getting a "lesser" presentation with the 1080p a/v.

Hopefully this will stay around $80 at time of release, assuming the dollar to pound exchange holds to under $1.31. If the second wave of Covid arrives in force, and the bottom falls out of the dollar, could be much worse- assuming it ships at all.
I know when I finally went region free around 2014 or 2015, the exchange rate was running over $1.60 to the £.

Has anyone actually used this Base place? Any idea if they would ship in a decent box? Zavvi has an unfortunate habit of shipping box sets in padded envelopes.

I have no idea, but I ordered it from them. Can't pass up that price.

Not sure I want to risk an unknown retailer. I preordered from Zavvi but will definitely cancel there if DiabolikDVD gets a decent price.

One movie, 3 cuts, $100. Guess you have to be true fan to jump off the cliff for this one.

The Argento cut is a 4K scan from the interpositive, btw.

I suppose the book is a nice addition.

Long long time ago I bought a few titles from Base and never had issues (think when the last time was Deep Discount had a good sale, which was what, 4 years ago?). It's been so long I don't wanna really say one way or another. I'd email them and ask.
