UHD discs are region free, so even if there isn't you can buy this.

Is there another region, strictly Blu-ray that has all the cuts and extras and stuff? I have the blu. (Which cut us that?) and the monster dvd set, but where in my storage room would take some doing. Don’t think I’ve seen the Argento cut, but have seen te and longer cut, though not for at least 10 years. Really need to revisit soon...

I don’t think it can as the right are held by Rubenstein who refuses to allow anyone to release unless they buy his 3D print. Someone correct me if I’m wrong.

That might be true, but SS have stated the deal they struck was through him.

DVD Compare is your friend
The short answer is there has not been a release with everything. The only ones to include all 3 official cuts in HD are from Japan, which is barebones, from Italy, which includes the Argento cut in 4K and a handful of extras including some exclusive ones in Italian, and from Austria, which includes the 'complete cut' and a handful of extras.

Second Sight Films Just to confirm the Blu-ray releases will be region B, however there is no region coding on Ultra HD Blu-ray.
So, that would lead us to believe that someone got the Region A rights. I would think Arrow or Criterion would be out, since seemingly they would've got the Region B rights as well. That leaves Shout...? Who else would be possible...?

I’m not sure the region coding signifies anything other than the licensor requiring it. I have a fair number of region B discs that have never gotten a North American release. I sure hope it’s coming over here, though!

No extended Director's cut, let alone the extended mall hours cut? I'll hang onto my Italian import UHD and German BD release which does have the mall hours cut in 1080p!

This new second sight set appears to bring nothing new to the table and is just a rehash of already existing materials. Easy pass, unless I'm grievously mistaken in the above comments?

I’m theorizing because my understanding is that Second Sight hasn’t region encoded any of their other releases. So maybe there is a reason this time?

The Cannes cut is the same as the Director's cut (Romero has been known to say the theatrical cut is the version he prefers and the Cannes version was more of a rought cut, so that's probably why they're avoiding calling it the director's cut). And I haven't seen it, but from what I've heard the complete cut aka extended mall hours cut is more of a novelty than anything.

It absolutely brings something new to the table, which is new 4K scans which this film really needs, not to mention releasing all 3 official cuts on UHD.
Beyond that, it will hopefully be a definitive edition, including all previously released special features and I'm sure some new ones.

No, not at all. They simply only have the license to release in Region B. Someone else must hold the rights in Region C (and A - which I assume is Rubenstein?)

But that's just for the BD. The 4K BD is region free like my boy HD DVD.

Extended Mall Hours is a fan cut putting everything known into one very long film. It's interesting but really slow. I watched it a few weeks back and felt like I saw a few scenes I had never really seen before (probably because I prefer the Theatrical). It's a total novelty and worth watching as a fan, but I'll stick to the Anchor Bay BD and the 4K disc a few years back....But I will be buying this release as well. Probably one of the few disc purchases this year. My Xbox One S might finally get used.

Re: George A. Romero's DAWN OF THE DEAD -- 4K UHD (Theatrical, Cannes, Argento cuts) coming from Second S

UK distributor Second Sight Films announced earlier this year that they’re restoring George A. Romero‘s Dawn of the Dead for an upcoming 4K Ultra HD release, with the original camera negative provided by producer Richard P. Rubenstein. The scanning, color grading and restoration is being managed by Final Frame under the supervision of Director of Photography Michael Gornick, and Second Sight has provided us with a bit of an update this week.

The company writes over on Facebook…

“Following the 4K scan of the camera negative, grading and framing approved by DP Michael Gornick, we now have about 4 weeks left of manual frame by frame restoration at Final Frame followed by the HDR grade for the UHD. We are releasing the 3 cuts on 3 separate discs (both Blu-Ray and UHD) plus bonus disc so the authoring stage will then take several weeks for the best possible encodes by David Mackenzie. We are currently hoping for a release date in February and will update again in the next month.”

“Aside from the 3 versions of the film itself, plus archive and new bonus material, we are also working on other exciting additional content for the box set. We have been very fortunate to have Michael Gornick involved and it was great to hear his comment on work to date: ‘I place upon this extraordinary effort a nihil obstat in certification of its quality’. More soon…”

Yes, the set will feature George A. Romero’s Original, Unrated US Theatrical Release Cut (2:07), Romero’s Pre-US Release Cannes Cut (2:17) and the foreign edition edited by Dario Argento.

The 4K Ultra HD discs will be Region Free, with a UK Blu-ray also coming.

DAMN that sounds awesome. Really wishing I hadn't bought the ZOMBI-only UHD (it has the other cuts on Blu-ray, but only the Argento cut on UHD), which looks FINE to me, but will obviously see an improvement with the above release.

I'll be importing it for sure.

Yes, Second Sight does not have a U.S. presence. The Blu-ray Discs will be region B, but the 4K discs are region-free, as always.

Either way, that’s fine. Will most assuredly get and pre-order as soon as live. I just found their new Limited Edition of In Bruges, one of my favs of all time. With new extras, extras not seen on US Blu-ray and McDonagh’s Oscar winning short with Gleeson. Between this, The Cooler, The Beast Within, The Handmaiden, Thirst these past couple months, I am totally loving being region free!

As been said numerous times in this thread already, yes.

The blu-rays aren't.

Good, I thought I was having a Senior Moment...

I love Romero's DotD.
Not sure I would love it in 4K.
I'm afraid the 4K rez. might reveal too much...

Is this out? Anyone have? I don’t see UK version. Is Italian complete version English friendly and only release available with all cuts, viewable on any region player?

Re: George A. Romero's DAWN OF THE DEAD -- 4K UHD (Theatrical, Cannes, Argento cuts) coming from Second S

It isn’t.

This was the last update in November:

DAWN OF THE DEAD update! We had hoped to release early in the new year however restoration work has taken longer than originally anticipated and we are giving the restoration team as much time as they need to do the most thorough job possible. We're almost there! We don’t want to set a date for release however until all masters are completely ready for production and we are sure the release date can be met. As we are releasing on 4K UHD across 3 discs, as well as standard Blu-ray, the authoring stage will then take several weeks and we also want to give David Mackenzie as much time as needed for the crucial encoding stage. Thanks to everyone for their ongoing patience, we hope you’ll be pleased with the end result and feel it was worth the wait! Before Christmas we hope to give further details of the new bonus material, the archive material and the additional contents of the box set. With regard to MARTIN, this will follow closely behind the Dawn release.

Ok. Thanks. So, no idea, even estimate? Within this year? Are French or Italian imports good and English friendly?
