I already own both a TV and player now, but yeah when I knew I was going to move to 4K I started buying 4K media a bit earlier. The combo packs helped quite a bit.

I've cut my physical purchases back to the point that spending a few extra dollars on the 4K combo paks is worth it. I'll upgrade the TV/player one of these days! lol

Regardless, the fact is many of the early releases were extremely underwhelming (TFE, HOFD), to the point of being almost indistinguishable from the DVD.
For example, Fox pulled Robocop immediately after release because it was so horrible.
