I actually don’t think I’ve ever seen The Little Mermaid all the way through. Might check out the Blu-ray. I’d like 101 Dalmatians from the list of upcoming releases.

It's crazy that the whole 'canon' hasn't been released yet, really hope those last 3 come out next year.

Easily my second-favorite traditional animation movie from Disney. Behind only Beauty & The Beast.

No Sleeping Beauty or Alice In Wonderland on that list?

It's not necessarily a comprehensive list. Just what they have on that website. Sleeping Beauty most likely will be part of the Signature Collection. Alice, probably not, as it has never been part of the other premium lines.

Well even if most of them are out, are they easily buyable? The Saludos Amigos/Three Caballeros art is third party $48 on Amazon. That might have been a DMR one.

The Little Mermaid 4K review looks good

https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/The-L...227169/#Review

The blu ray release uses a new transfer as well over the previous version

And a great Atmos track! I’ll definitely pick this up.

Re: Walt Disney Animated Classics 2019 Blu-ray releases

I saw where Target has some of the Disney Signature titles on sale for $20 this week. I remember seeing Pinocchio and Snow White and the Seven Dwarves for sure. I think Bambi was one too.

Re: Walt Disney Animated Classics 2019 Blu-ray releases

So is Best Buy only doing 4K Steelbooks for the Disney Signature releases now? I got the one for Lady and the Tramp which is a standard Blu-ray release and was looking for one for The Little Mermaid but 4K seems to be the only option. I don't have a 4K TV or player yet and don't want to drop $35 for the 4K release. I guess I'll just get the standard release but its too bad.

Re: Walt Disney Animated Classics 2019 Blu-ray releases

They did the same thing with Solo. I had been buying the BB exclusive steelbooks for all of the Disney Star Wars releases, but Solo was only offered in 4K at $35. I passed, even though it doesn't match the rest of my Star Wars Blu-rays now.

Pretty much all of the Disney / Marvel / Star Wars, etc. steelbooks are 4K only now at Best Buy. Just like this week with Wreck It Ralph 2, 4K steelbook only.

Mike, the 4K version comes with the standard blu ray. You are basically just future proofing yourself.

Yeah I know. I sometimes do that but in this case I actually don’t believe I’ve seen the film all these years somehow (or at least not all of it) and it’s a blind buy for me. I just didn’t really want to spend the extra cash for it in this case. Especially because I don’t have a Best But locally, which means I would have had to have paid the $35 plus whatever the shipping cost would be.

On the plus side this also saves me from feeling tempted to hunt down the other Steelbook releases for the Signature titles, which I’m sure are expensive being out of print.

Re: Walt Disney Animated Classics 2019 Blu-ray releases

I don't have a problem with buying the UHD and future proofing myself, I did it many times before I actually owned a blu-ray player (mainly with Disney titles), but I will not pay extra for that when I don't own a UHD player or a 4K TV. When this was happening with blu-ray titles all those years ago, the blu-ray was often the same price or cheaper than the DVD, so I did it often. At this point, I own exactly one UHD title, Ant-Man and the Wasp, and the reason that I own it is because on Black Friday it was cheaper than the blu-ray release. That doesn't seem to happen very often with UHD.

Re: Walt Disney Animated Classics 2019 Blu-ray releases

I have some 4K releases but I mainly only buy them if they’re only a few dollars more than the standard release (I’ve gotten the last four Marvel films on 4K) or if they’re something I’m interested in and are cheap (bought a few over Black Friday).

Re: Walt Disney Animated Classics 2019 Blu-ray releases

I will say, the film looks great in 4K. Looks like Disney really stepped it up this time with the restoration, and while I'm very impressed it's a bit of a slap in the face considering the overall effort they've been putting into their new releases for the past (almost) decade or so.

This might be the prettiest Steelbook ever released. Looks really vibrant and sharp in person

They sold out REAL QUICK at Best Buy. I was lucky to get one.

As pretty as it is, it wasn't worth $45 Canadian for me.

I missed out on the Steelbook, but things like that don't bother me any more as a collector.

Re: Walt Disney Animated Classics 2019 Blu-ray releases

I think I'll pick up Little Mermaid UHD via Disney Movie Club, they have a bundle for $40 with a couple direct to video movies on blu-ray plus some misc bonus items. Then I'll use the 60% off to pick up Captain America and Wreck It Ralph 2 UHDs for $14 each, maybe throw in Solo for that price too.
