Strange Magic. How come there's no blu ray release?
 

Just curious why Strange Magic got only a DVD release and no blu ray release.

Whats up with that?

Some lame decision by Disney- they seem to love to hype cool technology and then back away from it. None of the recent Disney Channel movies have gotten Blu-Ray releases either, which is a shame since High School Musical 2 (which I got free from them as a birthday 'reward' back when they did that) was one of the first Blu-Rays I watched.

Honestly though, it's time to phase out regular DVD or at least just package it with Blu-Rays which are usually close to the same price.

The story I've heard is that this wasn't a movie Disney wanted; it was a contractual obligation as part of the Lucasfilm acquisition, and they did the bare minimum necessary to meet those requirements.

I don't think it's indicative of Disney's larger attitude towards home video (although I'm with Alan in finding it problematic) so much as really wanting nothing to do with the movie itself.

I rented it in digital HD and it was beautiful. I'd easily buy a Blu-Ray of it, but not a regular DVD. (And I don't "buy" digital, though the price right now is $9.99. Might consider it at $5 or less.)
