What about the 100s of us who already own copies? And I don't want to hear any of that "mail us YOUR disc and we'll mail you OUR disc" BS from Warners - just mail us the correct ones if we provide you our receipt/proof of purchase (and no, we're not cutting it off the box!).

They fixed the disc to include the fade:

sorry to inform all of you fans, 2001 a space odyssey WCL exclusive edition will be delayed one month. We are informed today, there is a problem with the UHD and main feature BD, The final finished master was missing an original film editorial fade to black insert in the film – it should have had an 18 frame fade to black [0.7 seconds]. No footage is missing from the feature and audio remained in sync. The mastering team has fixed the issue. We are waiting for the new version discs. We don't accept the wrong disc and cut version feature, it's not match our concept. We insist on replace the new discs. sorry for delay.

The guy who demanded that the original DVD releases of all Kubrick's films be sourced from ancient full-screen VHS masters, and single-handedly messed up the aspect ratio on the initial Blu-ray for Barry Lyndon?
(Yes, I have seen the Filmworker documentary. I feel great sympathy for the guy on a personal level, but when it comes to supervising video transfers for Kubrick's movies, he has not proven to be a very reliable source.)

Anybody actually get their hands on the steelbook yesterday? I read a lot of scratches/marks are showing up, as they opened them all up and switched out the old disc.
I couldn't even find the regular release in store.

^ I did not get a steelbook copy, but I ordered the regular one from Amazon and it showed up yesterday.
The plastic case housing the discs was broken; split down one of the creases. Clearly because of mishandling when they swapped the disc. If I cared enough about the case, I'd ask for a replacement, but... I don't.
The fade-out is indeed fixed on my copy, though.

This 4K was one of my Xmas gifts from the Mrs.
For those who have only seen the previous disk releases, this 4K UHD is a mind blower.
The higher rez 4K and UHD is jaw droppingly marvelous.
What a beautiful cinematic image 2001 truly is.
Kubrick's vision is something to behold.
I have no idea where it came from, but it's hard to think a more amazing movie has been made in the last 100 years.
EVERY fan of cinematic art should have this release in their collection.
It's something to brag about to lessor souls.

bump!
Watched this yesterday while I was doing other Plex-related stuff
What a beautiful transfer and just phenomenal presentation overall. Couldn't have asked for better, honestly.
