Yes, and there's no "Maybe it's a teal spotlight shining on him" rationalization for this one. This scene takes place in broad daylight. There is no conceivable reason he should look that color.

I'm not saying I endorse the movie in any respect, but the 4K transfer for Batman & Robin has both real blues and real greens, sometimes even existing in the same frame together with neither turned teal.

What are the thoughts of Top Gun 4k? That was another remaster that was a big shift from the original release, in this instance it being very orange. I've read it was how the original presentation looked in theaters being "sun kissed' but I never saw it back then. I just know the shift was jarring when I watched it at first but I got used to it.

Overall, I liked the remaster. But I'm seeing it as someone who lived in southern CA and was in the Navy. The only time they needed that much teal was in interior of the carrier. It's really dark in there due to a lot of displays. The bulkheads are painted flat black.

One thing I noticed was the infamous "blue kiss" scene is less blue. But the outdoor scenes looked more natural.

Obviously it's been decades since I watched Top Gun in the movie theaters but I think the UHD colors are fairly close to what I remember seeing, if maybe a little more over the top than what historical prints displayed. This is one case where I think the BD was probably wrong.

Looking at those Top Gun posts, I am not movie color connoisseur, but my eyes and head tell me I like the natural look of the BD more than the UHD screenshots.

Is the background details washed out on the 4K remaster? Judging by the screenshots it appears so. Details look washed out and mostly lost.

I think it's a combination of the color grade and a lack of artificial sharpening (which the 2008 BD suffered from) making it seem that way.

Here's a larger comparison -- 2008 at the top, 2020 at the bottom:

(I can't remember if there was a remaster in between, but these are the two copies of Top Gun I have. I haven't made screenshots from the UHD disc; these are from the BD.)

2020 looks so much better. You get to see the aircraft.

Yeah the 2020 is miles better. The 2008 is oversaturated.
