Haven't the last few releases been kind of by-the-numbers on Fox's part? I wonder if they'll put some effort in this or if they're just churning it out to make some money.

Your picture only loads for forum members who are auto-logged-in to blu-ray.com
(i didn't see it at first but after I went there and logged in, then refreshed here, I could see it)

Anyway, I'm down for this. Got rid of my 5-star DVD years ago and never got around to picking up the BD. A new 4K copy is right up my alley.

I just hope SPEED is next!!

As long as the price is right, sure.

Re: Die Hard -- 30th Anniversary Edition (4K UHD and BD)

There really isn't anything new Extras-wise they can add to this. The previous DVDs and BDs have loads of it including the commentaries and documentaries. The 25th anniversary BD box set has a long 1 hour + documentary on the series. I'm sure most if not all that material will be ported over here.

So really we're just hoping it's a good 4K transfer.

Correct. For one of the most popular films of all time, Fox hasn't put much time or effort into releasing the Die Hard franchise on home video.

I remember the DVD had that interesting feature where you could edit a scene using the DVD player remote control. They had the same scene taken from three different angles allowing the user to skip from one angle to another at the press of a button.

Re: Die Hard -- 30th Anniversary Edition (4K UHD and BD)

I should be much more excited that Die Hard is coming out in 4K due to it being my favorite film of all time but it really hinges on the reviews. If reputable sites like this one say it is barely an improvement over the blu ray then I might just stick to being happy with the disc in my Nakatomi Plazza edition (or wait until it hits a BF type price before picking it up). If the review gives off a vibe of its not perfect but wow what an improvement from the blu ray disc I will absolutely pick this up without waiting 6 months for it to drop in price (or ask for it as a b-day gift).

It helps that I do not already own the blu ray version of this film, but I am actually a bit more excited that The Matrix is coming to 4K.

Isn't the current blu ray a bit dodgy? Or at least whenever they do a repackaging (when a new movie comes out) everyone complains its the same old transfer

Weird it doesn't say 30th Anniversary Edition on the cover.

Yeah...the blu ray is not all that and I think the Nakatomi Edition is basically the same PQ quality as from when I picked up my first Die Hard Blu as part of the first Die Hard set that was released (the one that only went up to Die Hard 4 I believe).

I really hope the reviews say the 4K is not basically an upconverted blu when it comes to PQ...fingers and toes crossed for some good reviews, after all this film is my Citizen Kane (which I know is generally acknowledged by everyone, pro/amateur critics, regular film lovers, etc., as the actual greatest film of all time).

even though fav of all time, don't think they'll add anything new to make me get this iteration...

Re: Die Hard -- 30th Anniversary Edition (4K UHD and BD)

Unless you have a 4K TV right now, probably no point for anyone to double-triple-quadruple dip on this for the BD version.

Re: Die Hard -- 30th Anniversary Edition (4K UHD and BD)

A well done 4K scan would blow the old BD out of the water. It's pretty damn average like so many other early fox catalog titles.

Re: Die Hard -- 30th Anniversary Edition (4K UHD and BD)

I just googled...so far no reviews and we are getting close to the release date. I like to think this is a beloved film that would merit a review now that it will be in a 4K format so fingers crossed that a trustworthy review pops up in a week or so.

Re: Die Hard -- 30th Anniversary Edition (4K UHD and BD)

Laserdisc
DVD
DVD Special Edition
Blu ray

more and more movies are on the cusp of a penta-dip for me. Since I'll need to upgrade my display before I truly appreciate 4K discs, and since the current Bd is serviceable with no glaring issues, it'll be easy to pass on this for now.

When I'm ready for it, the 4K should be in the $10 and under pile at Wal-mart.

Re: Die Hard -- 30th Anniversary Edition (4K UHD and BD)

The BD picture is mediocre, as people have said, but I still watch the film regularly.

I always liked the "Why Widescreen?" feature back in the days when people still needed to be convinced not to watch pan-and-scan.

Fox rarely provides screeners prior to street date, especially for catalog titles.

Re: Die Hard -- 30th Anniversary Edition (4K UHD and BD)

Keep in mind this was intentionally shot looking a bit out of focus, if they do the 4K the way it's supposed to look there will likely be a few complaints but I will just laugh at them.

I bought the Blu-Ray box set because the DVDs look like ass (due to the limitations of that format, and the ridiculous edge enhancement on With a Vengeance), but was pissed that they updated the Fox opening on Die Hard 2 with the newer CG opening.

Zero need to upgrade from what’s been released before.

I don't get care about extras, just the video quality of the UHD.

Fox has never impressed with their remasters. I imagine UHD will be no different.
