Re: Walt Disney Animated Classics 2018 Blu-ray releases
Wouldn't this box have been made up of a second run of those first releases?
I remember seeing this at Costco and considering selling my individual copy of each title. But at the time they were not selling for much if they had been opened.

I figure this is as good a thread to ask, since Disney utilized it: have any features used BD Live recently, or did it fizzle out in 2009?

Universal still uses it to load new trailers in front of your BD's. I'm not aware of any other studio using it for anything.

I'm never selling my metal tin treasures collection, I don't care how much they go for, they are some of the coolest items I own.

I've missed buying a lot of titles over the years that I've come to regret, but I am so freaking glad I picked up (most of) these treasures. I got all the animation ones, plus the rarities and Tomorrowland ones. I keep the tins in storage and I'm so glad to have all those classic cartoons to share with my son.

The collector in me didn't want to part with them, however the bulk of the live action releases I never bothered to watch, nor had any attachment to.

Sucks that we didn't even get every classic on BD before they start getting re-released on UHD.

But I'm glad to see studios still doing neat sets like this. Here's hoping we keeping getting boutique stuff like this while most of the world moves to streaming.

Yeah, looks like one of the old laserdisc box sets. But there's some films that just don't age well (looking at you, Home on the Range ((minus the first yodeling scene of course, that was like something out of another film completely)) and even Lady and the Tramp makes me uncomfortable at times).

The Siamese cats are pretty horrifically racist, but that seems to happen in older Disney stuff.
But the other thing is last time we rewatched it was when our son was really young and the thought of the mother leaving their infant child with a nanny for an extended absence really bothered us. Separation from parents at such a young age can be mentally traumatic and it really hit us hard as relatively new parents.

But then again, the story of Peter Pan is one of those that Hollywood studios tends to like more than the average film-going public. Not a half decade goes by without someone trying to bring it to the screen in some capacity, but it's almost always a commercial failure...but that never deters the next studio from trying to come out with their own version a few years later.

Re: Walt Disney Animated Classics 2018 Blu-ray releases
I recently rewatched Peter Pan with my daughter (it's the first time that I've seen it since I was a kid) and I found it really distasteful. The over-the-top Native American stereotypes were, even for the time, terrible and the film itself felt very shrill and almost mean spirited. Just a tough watch.

I love the idea of the whimsical land where boys don't have to grow up, but the Native American stuff is just atrocious.
My son's school put it on last year as their 5th grade play, stereotypes intact, and the really surreal thing was when they cast some of the Indian (from the country of India) girls as the "Indians".
The Chicago suburbs can be progressive, but then something like that comes along and really makes we think about moving to Europe.

Yes, but it looks like it comes with 5 other "Disney Tales" as well. Not sure what those will be.
I always have wondered just what the market is for these separate packages of their shorts. Especially when they were already previously available in other ways. They just released a third package of the Pixar shorts. Seems like the other two Pixar shorts packages hit the clearance point pretty quickly.
