Your Favorite Releases Of 2017

Curious as to how other people felt about this past year- especially if you're a fan of catalog content.

Hm, I was going to come up with a list but it turns out I only bought 20 BDs this year. I'll just do top 5

Heat: The Director's Definitive Edition
Amores Perros
Game of Thrones Season 7
Planet of the Apes Trilogy
T2 Trainspotting

They are on the short list of the very best, most consistently excellent, labels releasing product on disc IMO.

Some boutique labels have their hearts in the right place, but are often in over their heads. These guys are the master class in how to get it done.

Re: Your Favorite Releases Of 2017

I probably have a few dozen favorites from this year. Problem is, I haven’t seen a single one of them. Some great Criterion’s I’m sure would be up there: Ghost World, Straw Dogs. I did see The Graduate, which was wonderful to see again. Good a/v, but didn’t get to extras. Being There, I’m sure is great. Wonder Woman seemed packed. I got the UK Arrow Wolf which I have yet to get to. I’m sure that would be up there. 3D Moana was great on all accounts and that would definitely be in top 3. Would love to get to Rumble Fish, Streets of Fire, The Lift looks real fun. Lawnmower Man would love to see all, Elle was fantastic. I did love the nostalgia of seeing The Flamingo Kid and Teen Witch, but no extras and not great a/v. Just so many great releases and no damn time...

Not bad for a company that started out making bare-bones porn discs!

Heat
Lair of the White Worm
Spider-Man: Homecoming (So refreshing to have an MCU disc that isnít stacked with worthless 2-minute featurettes)
Silent Night, Deadly Night
Logan
Stranger Things (Just for the packaging alone)

Re: Your Favorite Releases Of 2017

I liked the GoTG Steelbook release because Disney included the BD, 3D and 4K. However, my favorite release is the Valerian 4K BD. Too bad I still have to import the 3D version.

Re: Your Favorite Releases Of 2017

In no particular order, some of the better releases I've seen this year.

Erik The Conqueror - Arrow Video saves this early Mario Bava film in a fine release. If you appreciate the brief Viking craze that hit movie screens back in the late 1950s, this is a prime example.

A Street Cat Named Bob - A gritty yet heartfelt tale about a junkie and the adorable cat that saves him.

Animal Kingdom: The Complete First Season - TNT's drug thriller started out as a Point Break rip-off but ended up as one of the most compelling seasons of television that aired in 2016.

Silence - Martin Scorsese's complex and harrowing tale of two Christian missionaries in feudal Japan. This would have been prime Oscar bait if it involved a different religion.

Phaedra - Jules Dassin's haunting tragedy comes to Blu-ray. Olive Films only serves up a trailer as extras, but it's still great seeing the black-and-white movie on BD.

The Sissi Collection - Film Movement steps up to the big time with this lavish set collecting all the Romy Schneider films. The transfers aren't perfect on all the Sissi films but the stunning cinematography of the films have never looked better. It's easily worth its price.

Juice - Paramount doesn't put out many catalog releases but they got everything right in this 25th anniversary edition. The solid presentation and well-rounded special features make this disc essential for fans.

Beauty and the Beast - Shout Factory did an excellent job with this 2014 French adaptation of the storybook tale by Christophe Gans. This take on the familiar story and characters is lavish with a flair not seen in the Disney versions. This stars the French actress from Blue Is The Warmest Color.

Pilgrimmage - Young Tom Holland (you know him as Spider-Man) gives a captivating performance as a monk-in-training during the Crusades.

Vamp - Arrow Video serves up this 1980's vampire flick with Grace Jones in their usually capable manner.

Re: Your Favorite Releases Of 2017

I would have to say the most anticipated discs of 2017 were:
Le Samourai
Tampopo

These two films I have been waiting for years to come to Bluray. Other films I was excited to get in HD were Kong: Skull Island and when jumping into 4k this holiday: Blade Runner and MIB trilogy.

Re: Your Favorite Releases Of 2017

Thanks to everyone who has responded.

A slow night here, so I figured I might as well put this together before we get too much farther into the new year.

2017 was a stellar year for packaged media as far as I'm concerned. One of the best yet.

[SPOILER]Warner Archive

WA kicked out a heaping helping of stuff I've been pining for, for a while now.
There were several more beyond these, but the above are the ones that were at the top of the list for me.
