It - 1/9/18

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has officially announced that it will release on 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray director Andrés Muschietti's thriller It (2017), starring Bill Skarsgård, Javier Botet, Owen Teague, Jaeden Lieberher, and Nicholas Hamilton. The two releases will be available for purchase on January 9.

The 4K Blu-ray release of It will feature Dolby Vision HDR that dramatically expands the color palette and contrast range, and uses dynamic metadata to automatically optimize the picture for every screen — frame by frame.

Also, the 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray discs of It will feature a Dolby Atmos soundtrack remixed specifically for the home theater environment to place and move audio anywhere in the room, including overhead. To experience Dolby Atmos at home, a Dolby Atmos enabled AV receiver and additional speakers are required, or a Dolby Atmos enabled sound bar.Dolby Atmos soundtracks are also fully backward compatible with traditional audio configurations and legacy home entertainment equipment.

Studio synopsis: New Line Cinema's horror thriller "IT," directed by Andrés Muschietti ("Mama"), is based on the hugely popular Stephen King novel of the same name, which has been terrifying readers for decades. When children begin to disappear in the town of Derry, Maine, a group of young kids are faced with their biggest fears when they square off against an evil clown named Pennywise, whose history of murder and violence dates back for centuries. "IT" stars Bill Skarsgård ("Allegiant," TV's "Hemlock Grove") as the story's central villain, Pennywise. An ensemble of young actors also star in the film, including Jaeden Lieberher ("Midnight Special"), Jeremy Ray Taylor ("Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip"), Sophia Lillis ("37"), Finn Wolfhard (TV's "Stranger Things"), Wyatt Oleff ("Guardians of the Galaxy"), Chosen Jacobs (upcoming "Cops and Robbers"), Jack Dylan Grazer ("Tales of Halloween") and Nicholas Hamilton ("Captain Fantastic").

Muschietti is directing "IT" from a screenplay adapted by Chase Palmer & Cary Fukunaga and Gary Dauberman. Dan Lin, Roy Lee, Seth Grahame-Smith, David Katzenberg and Barbara Muschietti are producing, with Marty P. Ewing, Doug Davison and Jon Silk serving as executive producers.

The behind-the-scenes creative team includes director of photography Chung-Hoon Chung ("Me and Earl and the Dying Girl"), production designer Claude Paré ("Rise of the Planet of the Apes"), editor Jason Ballantine ("The Great Gatsby"), and costume designer Janie Bryant (TV's "Mad Men").

Special Features and Technical Specs:

Pennywise Lives! – Discover how Bill Skarsgård prepared to portray the primordial creature known as Pennywise the Dancing Clown

The Losers' Club – Get up close and personal with the teenage stars of "IT" as they bond together during the production

Author of Fear – Stephen King reveals the roots of his best-selling novel, the nature of childhood fear and how he created his most famous monster, Pennywise

Deleted Scenes – Eleven deleted or extended scenes from the film

The lack of UHD in the steelbook means that I'll probably wait on this one.

Sometimes Best Buy lists the Blu Ray Steelbook first then the UHD later. That's what they did with Atomic Blonde.

Maybe, but it wouldn't be the first time WB has done this this year (I went steelbook for Lego Batman...I'll probably go UHD for Dunkirk). Plus, this title is almost surely to be revisited when the second movie comes out. I'll probably just pick up a cheap copy of the blu-ray some time early next year while waiting for super duper It edition.

I posted on the main IT thread. Looks like there won't be an extended cut after all.

I’ll get this for sure. Might go with the Best Buy Steelbook.

Think I'll go Target on this one.

I'm sure they'll do a big set of both films after Pt. 2 but, eh, whatever. I want to watch this again.

I wouldn’t hold my breath. It really seems like the age of double-dips in the BD era has long ended. The only times I ever see double-dips made are when different companies put out their own version OR when a boxset-release regains or acquires a franchise installment.

Then again, the Justice League fiasco might cause WB to go to desperate measures in getting that money back!

Double dip when it comes time to release the 2nd part in Sept 2019. Watch. Or they'll make it a digital exlusive

Well that saves me on an early purchase. I guess I'll pass on the steelbook after all. Thanks.

EDIT: After reading that, it doesn't clarify if the extended cut will be a physical release or not. Now I'm wondering if it will be a digital only release, like The Fate and the Furious was...

Re: It - 1/9/18

If Best Buy is going to produce such limited quantities of these sets they really need to limit them to one per customer. I wasn't too mad about not getting this particular steelbook since I was able to get the Target version, but it's not fair that there are people out there snagging multiple copies just to post on eBay for double or triple what they paid.

I finally picked up a copy of this. It seemed like every B&M store in my area has been sold out of the Non-4K releases for a bit now.

Has anyone checked out the 4K disc yet? It doesn't sound like it's all that hot.

I see plenty on eBay that have sold for $50. It's not that much over the normal retail price. Not even worth the time to make maybe $5-$8 after eBay/Paypal/Tax fees.

Even so, its still currently available on BestBuy.com for $34.99.

Maybe one or two people on blu-ray.com's forums agree with that review. Everyone else is aghast about how off-base it is.

I haven't watched the disc myself yet, though.
