Or at least the first half of the movie could have ended with a time-jump forward for the second half.

The idea that Lynch would end the TV show with a bunch of unresolved storylines, and then immediately go into production on a movie, yet not use that movie to give the show a proper ending, just seemed inconceivable to people. It made no sense to them why he would do that.
Fair enough.

Oh please. Hardly a spoiler. Did you think they wouldn't find Spock in Star Trek III too?

I remember tons of TV ads for it. Pre-Internet era, so there wasn't much else to do. I do know it didn't get a particularly wide release - I had to drive an hour from home to see it. It didn't hit my local theater until three weeks later and by that point it was DOA.

I finally picked up a copy of the soundtrack and it's pretty fantastic (although I'd have preferred the other Au Revoir Simone song that didn't make the cut).

I know some people didn't care for the processing added to the vocals, but Rebekah del Rio's No Stars is just killing me right now. What a devastatingly beautiful song. That song moves me in pretty much exactly the way I was hoping the show itself would move me. The fact that it didn't is ultimately what disappointed me the most about the new series. That the song is essentially a relic from the Mulholland Dr. era somehow doesn't surprise me, as that seems to be the last time I really connected with what Lynch was doing. Don't get me wrong, the new show had its moments, and I'd rather have it as is than nothing at all, but I'm not in any real hurry to revisit it.

Bad Binoculars (28:08)

I hope this is 28 minutes of Jerry Horne walking around the woods just to piss off the complainers about the series being too slow and lingering on shots too long.

Why is this so hard to find?

No B&M stores have it, out of stock at amazon, with no 3rd party sellers selling it.

What gives?

Very strange. Review screeners did go out (I have one), so I don't think the release has been delayed. Also seems unlikely it would sell out.

I made it a point to run out and get this yesterday after catching a whiff of the availability issues. I'm sure it'll be easy to get eventually but I just saw it for the first time streaming and want to watch the extras ASAP.

I saw the original series for the first time this month as well. I think I'm glad I didn't have to see either show a week at a time.

My local Best Buy stores have it.
Did you check their in-store stock locator?

Both Sight & Sound and Cahiers du Cinema named Twin Peaks: The Return on their best films of 2017 lists (ranking it as #2 and #1, respectively). These highly-respected film journals saw such brilliance in this work that they thought it transcended television and put it on their film lists for recognition. Reminds me of when Cahiers named Fire Walk With Me as one of the best films of the '90s, when everyone else was calling it garbage. I love it.

Perhaps these rankings (which just came out a couple days ago) helped bump the sales, which is a reason that it was out of stock at a lot of places.

Maybe they're trying the make the physical release of the show as enigmatic as the show itself?

I returned a second copy to Best Buy today and the guy standing in line behind me asked the cashier if he could buy it after she finished with the return. He said he couldn't find a copy and was so excited I thought he was going to wet himself.

Looks like the demand for this release was greatly underestimated.

I was able to buy the set by having it put on hold for me at Best Buy. The packaging looks very neat but the way the disks are held is just terrible. There are cardboard "slots" for the discs as is popular nowadays but there is no adhesive around those slots so the discs just kind of slide all around, and even completely out of, the package. It's AWFUL.

I reserved my copy at Best Buy on release day. My friend went later in the afternoon, and there were no copies left. We have four Best Buy stores within an hour of us. All were sold out except one store, and he bought the last copy there.
