I don't suppose it's also coming to BD? This is a 4K exclusive, am I right? And why is it so hard to get T1 with the mono?

I'm pretty sure Cameron's company (Lightstorm Entertainment) owns the copyright to True Lies.

So what is it about The Abyss that has made James Cameron avoid a proper DVD or Blu-ray? Is there something in the film that he dislikes as much as he (allegedly) dislikes True Lies? I just don't get it...
The Abyss is probably my favorite Cameron flick. It disgusts me that there still isn't a proper release available in 2017! Starz aired a pretty nice looking HD version a couple years ago so I know there's at least a somewhat decent transfer out there.

But as long as we get the 37th release of T2, I guess it's all good.

It has a blu ray copy too (presumably sourced from the same 4k remaster), which prob will store all the extras. & usually Lions Gate doesn't charge up the ass for 4kUHD

I believe Cameron has it written into his contracts that he must approve any new video masters for his movies.

Screw extras. Most of the people who buy movies buy them for the movie.

I saw an interview with Eliza Dushku about four or five years ago (I think it was the Nerdist show on BBC America...which according to IMDB would make it 2013) where she said she had just filmed some extras segments for the forthcoming True Lies release. Clearly it should be out any day now.

Doesn't that basically mean they just need Cameron to sign his name on some legal document to be filed away?

Make the new transfer, show Cameron a few scenes from it, and have his ass sign the form. Hell, worst case, show him the transfer of the whole movie. We're talking a maximum of 2 hours of his Royal Highness' time!

I think it's more probable that Dushko, and all of us, are dead before either film is released again.

the way ive always understood the wording on say criterion booklets for transfers. Approved means they watched the movie (or saw a few scenes) & gave their thumbs up & supervised means they are actually there giving notes and what not during the restoration/scan

That's not the way James Cameron works. He's going to want to adjust the entire movie frame-by-frame to his current liking. He'd rather the movie be stuck with an old non-anamorphic Laserdisc master (which he supervised back in the day) than sign off on something he didn't micro-manage every detail of.

I hope these hollywood idiots aren't giving directors/producers that kind of control anymore. I'll be glad when dinosaurs like Cameron fuck off and die.

I have an earlier Blu-ray, the one with the T-800 head on the cover. I can't remember the last time I watched the movie though, so I'll definitely skip this and maybe even sell off the one I currently have.

The whole point of the rerelease in theaters is the 3D version of the movie. And then we don't get 3D on the blu ray here in the US? I don't get it.

The details actually say "3 Different Versions of the Movie" so I wanted to ask you guys if anyone knows what is different between them?

Seamless Branching of the Theatrical cut, Director's Cut and Special extended edition.

And to possibly answer your question Rypro, the Amazon listing specifies "4K Ultra HD Blu-rayTM of the theatrical film".

PS: I agree with the one commenter who posted that no 3D release can ever be considered 'complete' unless it includes the Universal Studios mini-sequel =).

While it would be cool to have the "movie" screen footage available on disc, the show doesn't work without the props and actors that move around the audience. Not something that really translates to video.

Certainly it would not be as cool as really seeing it in person, but as far as I know the show is still going so before it closes down for good some day they really should make a small investment to get in the back of the room and record the whole thing properly. Not just the 3D screen footage you mentioned but also the live actors and smoke and whatnot.

ooh shit third cut will be on here too? the one with the infamous
Spoiler:
Old Sarah Connor narration saying nothing happened and everything is safe. Which if they had gone with that ending, they couldn't really do any sequels

Does Fox really need James Cameron's permission/supervision to put True Lies on blu-ray?

Yeah. Cameron has ownership of True Lies.
