How is anyone supposed to answer that for you? It all depends on your priorities and how satisfied you are with the earlier versions (some of which do have various technical issues that may be resolved on these re-releases).

What I mean is that these are the same old transfers Disney used, right?

They're probably the same transfers, but they may be different encodes. Also, GKids has indicated that they're aware of some of the other technical issues and are interested in improving them where they can. For example, Disney's Ponyo disc has a lossy Japanese language track. This is something the GKids release may be able to better. How important something like that would be to you is your call.

I take it from the actor names still associated with each title. and the description of the special features (behind the microphone), that these have the Disney produced English voice tracks. That kind of surprises me. but in a good way. As a fan of having both options I would have never purchased these new releases if they were Japanese only. Now if the improvements are worthy I would strongly considering re-buying them. Almost of all of all that collection are must have classics.

If you go to post #2974, it goes in depth on what changes are on the new version.

Curious what the full deal is with Kiki's Delivery Service and the english dub. From what I've heard over the years, whoever was in charge of directing the dub essentially let Phil Hartman improvise whatever he wanted & his character always said something when either off screen.
I believe the blu ray version released by disney removed some of his performance and one of the newer dvd releases, and that only the vhs and the original dvd from i think 2002 have his full performance

Based on all the data listed above, here's my recommendations:
•Castle in the Sky - Upgrade to GKIDS (fixed subs + add'l EN audio track w/ original synth soundtrack)
•Howl's Moving Castle - No need to upgrade (unless you want the somewhat significant additional extras originally from the JP release)
•Kiki's Delivery Service - Upgrade to GKIDS (fixed subs)
•My Neighbor Totoro - No need to upgrade
•Nausicaa - Upgrade to GKIDS (updated video transfer from JP "Miyazaki box" version and no hard-subbed dub credits, but extras are a mixed bag)
•Ponyo - Upgrade to GKIDS (lossless JP audio, better extras)
•Porco Rosso - No need to upgrade
•Princess Mononoke - Upgrade to GKIDS (fixed subs)
•Spirited Away - No need to upgrade
I'd also recommend retaining the either the domestic 2005 DVD or 2011 BD of Nausicaa (while still buying the GKIDS release) for the sake of keeping the excellent ~30 minute "The Birth of Studio Ghibli" documentary that isn't going to be making the transition to the new distributor. GKIDS' addition of the Japanese commentary track (w/ Hideaki Anno & Kazuyoshi Katayama) along with the "Nausicaa and Evangelion!" discussion do make up for it somewhat, though.

•Ponyo
•Arriety
The rest, I'm keeping the Disney versions and I'll purchase the Yamadas to complete my Ghibli collection.

And by "Arriety", you mean, Mononoke.

We pulled out our DVD of Spirited Away to watch tonight and while the image generally looked good, the windowboxing was terrible.
Does the Bluray fix that?

Wow, definitely want to get that Spirited Away. Maybe a couple other DVD to Blu upgrades too.
