Re: THE MUMMY: 4K Ultra HD/Blu-ray

I'll probably take a pass on this, until it becomes $5 (or less) dump bin fodder.

If I were to buy this either in 4K or generic bluray, it would be for the "it's so bad that it's good" factor.

Fun film, I'll pick up the 4K when it's $19.99- low $20's.

I might be interested in the Target Steelbook, but with a release date of

Re: THE MUMMY: 4K Ultra HD/Blu-ray

Whoa...this one is turning out to be a major flop domestically. I'll save my $10 and skip a theater viewing to invest in the steelbook. My buddy said it was so bad that it only elevated the Brendan Fraser films. I usually go to see anything starring Tom Cruise but I haven't heard anything good about this film. What a missed opportunity. It should have been kept as a period piece and they should have turned course and moved closer to the horror realm and the original Universal/Hammer versions than the previous trilogy. With the right script, director and tone, the original story has the elements to create a pretty frightening tale with modern story-telling. Hell, Ridley Scott knew that when he made "Alien." That film has precious little gore and yet it still creates authentic chills. The decision to tie these movies together at the outset was a phenomenal blunder and it was obviously a money-grab without an ounce of consideration of what made the original films classics... films whose popularity endures 85+ years after they were released theatrically. Universal's "Dark Universe" is turning out to be darkly humorous... Hollywood is getting worse with each passing year.

Re: THE MUMMY: 4K Ultra HD/Blu-ray

It wasn't great, but it wasn't bad either. I'm glad it wasn't following the Brendan Fraser ones in terms of tone and goofy humor. This did a lot better overseas, but if they want this universe to have a chance, the next Dark Universe offering will need to be a success domestically.

Re: THE MUMMY: 4K Ultra HD/Blu-ray

I took the family to see it yesterday and we all walked out disappointed. Not sure why they went so dark in theme with this one while the last Mummy trilogy was so much fun. Such a disappointment.

Re: THE MUMMY: 4K Ultra HD/Blu-ray

Well it is supposed to be the first in the Dark Universe. The originals were the same way as well. The last ones with Fraser were fun in themselves, but not something I would have wanted them to continue making.

Re: THE MUMMY: 4K Ultra HD/Blu-ray

Saw this in the theater and thought it had it's moments but don't think it will be something I need to own. Obviously the airplane scene was the best. I'm sure I'll rent it upon release but doubt I'll pick it up unless one day it's a cheapo in the dump bin and I have some RZ dollars to burn.

Alan, as a reviewer I hope you're using "should of" ironically in response to gerrythedon's post.

That's some nice artwork there. Bonus points for not including any of that unnecessary garbage in the steelbook.
