Star Trek Beyond - 11/1/16

It looks like the Amazon exclusive is the only way to get all of the releases (BD+3D+4K+Digital) in one package. All for $50 and a replica of the U.S.S. Enterprise.

If it gets down to $30 or so during Black Friday, I'll pick it up. It would go nicely with my Watchmen Nite Owl Edition .

Spoiler:

Special Features:

Deleted Scenes – Go Beyond the final cut of the movie with scenes you didn't see in theaters.

Beyond the Darkness – Meet visionary producer J.J. Abrams, director Justin Lin and co-writers Simon Pegg and Doug Jung as they discuss the inspiration for the Star Trek Beyond storyline and how it came to life.

Enterprise Takedown – Experience edge-of-your-seat action and see how a shocking attack destroys the USS Enterprise.

Divided and Conquered – Learn how filmmakers pushed the boundaries in Star Trek Beyond by forcing the Enterprise crew into their most challenging situations yet.

A Warped Sense of Revenge – Meet Star Trek's newest villain, Krall, as actor Idris Elba reveals the backstory behind his character's terrifying ambitions.

Trekking in the Desert – Go on set to Dubai and discover how its futuristic architecture became the foundation for the most innovative Starbase yet.

Exploring Strange New Worlds – Tour the incredible production sets of Star Trek Beyond with director Justin Lin.

New Life, New Civilizations – See how special effects designers met the challenge to create an unprecedented 50 new alien species for the film to celebrate Star Trek's 50th Anniversary.

To Live Long and Prosper – Journey through the past 50 years of Star Trek with J.J. Abrams and the cast as they reflect on the evolution of this iconic sci-fi series.

For Leonard and Anton – Watch a touching tribute to the legendary Leonard Nimoy and beloved crew member Anton Yelchin.

Gag Reel – Join in on the fun with this hilarious gag reel of on-set bloopers.

Any bonus disc exclusives like there was for Into Darkness? I'm hoping not, because it means we are getting more on the standard edition the firs time around. But if they have split them up again, I want to get the right option.

I'd like to be optimistic and say that Paramount learned their lesson the hard way when they split up all of the extras for Into Darkness. But they won't. Of course, they did try and make up for it by releasing that Compendium and including all of the extras. But not even then could they get it right. I'm guessing we'll be seeing a 3 movie set that will have some kind of extras disc or something that will include the split extras we get on the Beyond releases.

I was going to add something similar to my earlier post, but then I realized they probably made out big time given people double dipped on the Compendium release to get those split up extras. Personally I got what I was interested when I picked up that Target Into Darkness exclusive. If they split up the extras again I'll likely just pick up one of them and call it good.

I think saw that Target is getting a bonus disc, I'll probably grab it from there (extra 5% off with Redcard).

Yeah, watch the bastards do another "compendium" where you have to re-buy the first two movies in order to get the full SE for Beyond.

Yeah, Target is getting a bonus disc (it's also currently eligible for the $5 gift card preorder)

Spoiler:

And while it's not exclusive content, Best Buy is getting a steelbook

Spoiler:

And Walmart has a gift set as well

I'm in for the Steelbook. It's nice that it doesn't seem to include any of the superfluous crap this time around. Just the blue ray, dvd and a digital copy.

Yup. Based on the reply by mattysemo247, Target has a bonus disc similar to what they had for Into Darkness. Figured as much.

Thanks. Last time I saw it at their site there was no specifics to what was included. Off to order it right now.

When I do get this, I guess I'll get the Target version.

Pretty nice to see them include a featurette paying tribute to Nimoy and Yelchin.

For a retailer bonus, that's actually a pretty good amount of content.

That's over 50 minutes of content alone.

The Into Darkness bonus disc was also pretty loaded. Not at all like the typcial bonus DVD that could have 15 minutes or so of fluff.

I may actually spring for the Amazon set, if not that set than the Target one is what I will pick up. I genuinely enjoyed the heck out of this Star Trek film (def. liked it better than 2, maybe even a teensy bit more than 1) and will actually be eager to pop the blu ray out of its hub and watch the film again.

Yeah, if I were to rank them, I might put this as #1 of the reboot trilogy (unless you count the prologue to the first movie on it's own, then that's definitely at the top).

Think I'll skip the bonus disc and get the 4k release so I can future-proof myself.

http://trekcore.com/blog/2016/09/her...nd-commentary/

"Now, just days ahead of the October 4 Digital HD release of STAR TREK BEYOND, the iTunes listing for the newest Trek film has been updated with a new special feature: another “Enhanced Commentary” component.

Once more, it seems that Paramount has chosen to hold one of the most desired bonus features from the physical-media edition of the film, and relegate it only to the iTunes digital edition."
It's Into Darkness nonsense all over again.

If the Bluray comes with a digital copy for iTunes, would that mean you would get that commentary?

It did last time. Went and checked my ITunes copy (from the Darkness BD) and it's there. Really sucks it's not on the disc, but unlike the other initial store exclusives for Darkness, at least you had access to it on the iTunes copy.

Thanks, I hate that they do this but I rarely have time for commentaries so it's not a big issue for me, but it really is abusive of the fans. I only bought the Compendium because I found a great deal on it. I'll buy Beyond once and that'll be fine.

Re: Star Trek Beyond - 11/1/16

I'll be foolishly picking up both the steelbook and 3D versions. I should have ordered the 3D steelbook from Zavvi but I am having a problem with an order I placed not showing up and I've read that this is an ongoing problem with that company's miserable service so I am a bit gun shy to order from them again—its been too much of a hassle. I didn't make it to the theater to see it so I'll experience it in 3D at home—can't wait.
