Wow. Can't believe that is actually the artwork they went with. When if first popped up, I thought for sure it was just a placeholder until the actual art was released.

It's designed to go along with the recent Ghostbusters 1 & 2 Steelbooks. I like this new cover better though.

I'm guessing only because of that original art on the cover. Without the "2016" on the cover there is no way of telling which version it is.

Well it doesn't have "Answer the call" on there, so obviously that's not the final artwork

Is everyone excited about the packaging because they can't get excited about the movie?

The good news, at least, is I don't see Sony re-releasing this a half dozen times like the original film...this batch is probably the only home video release we'll see for a while.

I think that is just on the J-card. There is a line underneath Ghostbusters (2016) going across the case, my guess is that once you take off J-card it would just say Ghostbusters. That way when people are buying it they won't be confused. I could be wrong though.

Yeah. I am not particularly fond of those covers either. They all do go together though.

I pre-ordered the new Ghostbusters 4k from Amazon for 29.99 but after they refused to match Walmart's price of 22.99, I decided to cancel and just get order it from Walmart. I never thought Amazon would work so hard to try to steer customers away from purchasing stuff from them.

Back in July, I posted those steelbook covers in the other thread, and here were some of the responses:

So I would be surprised if anyone liked the new one since it goes with the others. Then you would also have to re-buy the first two movies as well to have a matching set.

I'd be surprised if nobody liked these steelbook covers. One of your quotes mentions disliking Mondo covers as well, but those clearly have their fans. Personally, I don't like them, but I'm not big on special packaging or covers other than the original poster art.

Yeah, seems like this movie was made for 3D. Lackluster movie but looking forward to those visuals...

I guess that Best Buy 4K + 3D steelbook was pretty limited. It's out of stock online and not available for pickup anywhere near me.

My Best Buy had a few standard Steelbooks, but none in the 3D/4K variety. Of course I had already pre-ordered my copy.

Re: Ghostbusters (2016) - 4K UHD/3D BD/BD and BD - 11/11/16

I really enjoyed seeing this in the theatre but didn't see it in 3D. I was, therefore, really looking forward to the 3D.

I just finished watching it in 3D and am really disappointed.

Technically it was really good, lots of depth and no ghosting (no pun intended) that I noticed.

There was, however, more out-of-frame effects than I've ever seen before. More than all 70+ other 3D blu-rays I have combined. I was really bothered by it. I enjoy 3D as an immersive experience. Popping things out of the frame always makes me too aware that I'm just watching a movie and actually feels goofy and cartoony.

If they wanted a larger frame to show off 3D effects I would rather they had opted for a shifting aspect ratio instead.

I was looking forward to those effects popping off screen. Reviewers say it's fantastic. Perhaps I'll give it a go this weekend...

Just to be clear I was referring to proton streams and other effects actually going out of frame into the black bars. If you enjoy that sort of thing you will have a lot to enjoy.

I haven't seen this but heard it was also shown in theaters that way, which is absolutely retarded. Proper screens are naturally WIDER for scope (2.35), many new theaters letterbox scope movies (which really defeats the purpose of shooting in that format) instead and this movie encourages that. The instructions that came with it even said for theaters that have proper side-masked screens to play it in 1.85 with masking in.

Including 4K discs with 3D presents a conundrum for me, as I still can't play 4K discs yet. Even if I could, I would have little to no interest in any 2D copy of a 3D movie, but since it's included I would still watch it. Plenty of other 3D titles out this week anyways, so guess I'll wait for this one.

When I saw it in 2D in the theatre there was no crap flying out of the frame. If some people saw it in 2D and it that way I would have to wonder if they were watching it in one of those theatres that show a flattened 3D print as 2D.

Also, I thought I'd mention that both the theatrical and extended cuts of the film on the 2D blu-ray have the stuff flying out of frame into the black bars also. However, I redeemed the digital copy on Vudu and that copy is the theatrical version with NOTHING leaving the frame. Just FYI for those who care.
