Re: What movies have you dipped on the most regardless of media type?
For me, "Star Wars," "Lord of the Rings" "Superman" "James Bond" and "The Planet of the Apes." I am happy with the editions I own now and doubt I will be repurchasing these titles ever again. I settled on the steelbooks for "Star Wars," the extended edition boxset for "Lord of the Rings," the "Superman Anthology" boxset, the "James Bond 50" boxset and there's never gonna be a more beautifully executed box set than the "Planet of the Apes" 40 Year evolution. I will likely be experiencing withdrawals because I now believe it is ridiculous to own more than one copy of the same film. I am considering parting with all duplicates. I've got a few steelbooks that didn't contain the 3D editions. My plan was to just put the 3D version into the steelbook case but that seems silly when I can just keep the 3D set complete and part with the steelbooks for a few bucks. Buying packaging no longer makes sense with so many options. This past week I was really torn on "Batman V Superman." I wanted the Best Buy exclusive steelbook, I wanted the Target exclusive Digibook and I wanted the 3D version of the film—what to do? Well, I bought the 3D edition and skipped on the others. It just contained everything I wanted. Forking out another $30-$60 just seemed like complete lunacy. Thankfully I have no interest in UHD at this time!
When I step back I realize adding new titles to my collection makes far more sense than constantly upgrading for questionable "improvements." I have fought the desire to pick up the Criterion versions of "Dressed to Kill," "The New World" "The Game," "The Grand Budapest Hotel," "Moonrise Kingdom," and the upcoming "Blood Simple." It just doesn't make sense to me when I have totally acceptable versions of these films already. And now we are facing new editions of "An American Werewolf in London," "The Thing," "Jeepers Creepers 1 &2," "Invasion of the Body Snatchers," "Return of the Living Dead," and "Carrie." Then add to that the recent announcements by Universal that the Classic Monsters sets are hitting high definition. They have no regard for those who already purchased the original and re-released blu-ray single film editions and are releasing them along with the sequels rather than offering the sequels in double features as they did on DVD. Adding insult to injury, they have the audacity to duplicate the films in various sets. The prices on these two first sets have dropped so fast that I believe they are feeling consumer indifference. The Wolfman set is down to $28.85 via Amazon at the time of this writing! They could have handled these releases far more efficiently. You can bet your arse a complete collection (without duplication) is following on its heels in a year or so. When the improvements are significant I will relent, otherwise I will be fine with what I already own. There are hundreds of terrific films that need to be cleaned up and released on disc but the studios keep churning out the same crap in a different form and we keep biting.

Re: What movies have you dipped on the most regardless of media type?
All are DVD or Blu-ray. I *never* purchased video tape copies of movies. I felt it too expensive for how fragile the media is.
Dracula (1931) - 5 releases
The Lord of the Rings Theatrical FS (it was free) & WS DVD, Extended DVD, Extended Blu-Ray
Frankenstein (1931) - 4 releases
The Mummy (1932) - 4 releases
Planet of the Apes (1968) - 4 releases
The Bride of Frankenstein (1935) - 3 releases
The Wolf Man (1941) - 3 releases
The Invisible Man (1933) - 3 releases
Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954) - 3 releases
The Fly (1958) - 3 releases
Superman (1978) - 3 releases
Star Trek: The Motion Picture - 3 releases
Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan - 3 releases
King Kong (1933) - 3 releases
A Boy and His Dog - 3 releases
All were purchased to get a different cut, better print, or upgrade to Blu-ray. I have a dozen or so others where I have 2 copies, DVD and Blu-ray upgrade. For me to double-dip there has to be a compelling reason.

Re: What movies have you dipped on the most regardless of media type?
Pulp Fiction:
- Japanese laserdisc (came out way before U.S. Home Video)
- Widescreen VHS
- Regular laserdisc
- Criterion laserdisc (+$100 for bonus features, yay!)
- Canadian DVD (had special features not on US barebones release at the time)
- Special edition DVD
And yet, I never bought it on Blu. I think by this time I was sick of the movie.
And unlike a certain poster above......I tossed out each old format with every upgrade. No need to have inferior copies lying around.

Star Wars: OT, is the clear favorite.
Next to that:
Bourne Trilogy (probably triple dipped on DVD, plus HD-DVD and BD)
Then lots of triple dips in the vein of (VHS -> DVD -> BD) most notably nearly the entire Disney collection plus your Die Hards, Back to the Futures, Indiana Jones and the like.

Re: What movies have you dipped on the most regardless of media type?
Probably Star Wars, I know at least two sets of VHS and two sets of DVDs.
I've owned Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Movie on tape, DVD and Blu. Same with A Clockwork Orange, Pulp Fiction, Batman, Returns and Forever.
Probably a lot of Metropolis copies. I remember I had it on tape, on DVD, the complete on DVD and the Modorer version on Blu.
