Re: UHD release announcements
I believe that Shawshank is with Warner.
I’m hoping that some titles aren’t listed there (Lawrence of Arabia; Taxi Driver) because they’re already on their way. My write-in was The 7th Voyage of Sinbad.

I wrote in Bye Bye Birdie. Ann-Marget in her prime.

I had to go using Wikipedia for Sony Pictures listings. I know that’s not reliable. Plus you are made to write-in something. I like movies, but I rarely pay attention to home video rights. I even have Shawshank on Blu-ray, and it is clearly WB for video rights.

I hate polls like this where I haven't seen every nominated title. I picked League of Their Own for the first group even though I'm not a huge fan of that movie. Amused that they included Remains of the Day (which had some 70mm prints), Age of Innocence and Sense and Sensibility, all of which I projected and consider snooze-fests. I have Big Fish on DVD but haven't watched it, maybe I'll want that on 4K more afterwards.
For the write-in I picked Skatetown USA (1978) just because it's never been out on ANY format. Word is Lawrence of Arabia is already in the works, that'd obviously take advantage of the format much more but in the end I have to go for titles that aren't out at all.

I always liked A League Of Their Own. I own it on BR and that's fine for that title. For as much as I like the UHD format, I couldn't find anything from SONY I would upgrade.

Did give a rip about any of the ones listed in the first section. I picked Jerry McGuire but would not buy it.
Next three I picked was Heavy Metal, Silverado, & Snatch.
My write-in was Just One Of The Guys.

Don't know when Warners will decide to release them, but they have 4K versions of Shawshank Redemption, Full Metal Jacket, A Clockwork Orange, 2010: The Year We Make Contact, and a few others ready to go...it's just a matter of deciding when to put them on the release calendar, but all should be coming by the end of 2020, if not sooner.

Re: UHD release announcements
I still have no plans to get a true 4K projector anytime soon, but there are a few catalog titles I'd be tempted to pick up in UHD just for a scintilla improvement.
1776 is one. I still enjoy Heavy Metal, and Mask Of Zorro is one of my favorite films ever. In both cases (and 1776, TBH) I'm still ridiculously happy with the presentation the Bds provide.
Even if they were released, I'd be waiting a couple years till they were in the bargain bins or priced under $15. Now that I have a better handle on my Oppo's HDR conversion settings, I'll be looking to pick up Close Encounters too, next time it hits $15.
For the write-in I chose The Deep, though I have to admit Bye Bye Birdie being OoP on it's sole release is a more urgent request. I'm still surprised it hasn't seen a UK Bd release from someone yet.

Re: UHD release announcements
A flood of Pixar titles is on the way: Brave, Cars, Cars 2, The Good Dinosaur, Finding Dory, Finding Nemo, and Inside Out. Best Buy is getting exclusive steelbooks. Being released in early-to-mid November alongside Toy Story 4.
That just leaves Up, WALL-E, A Bug's Life, and the two Monsters Inc. flicks.

Re: UHD release announcements
A Spanish retailer is listing The Exorcist, the original Friday the 13th, Beetlejuice, and Salem's Lot as coming to Ultra HD Blu-ray in time for Halloween. Presumably we'll be getting all of those except Friday the 13th, as that's handled by Paramount on these shores.
Edit! It looks messier, judging by some posts on the other forum. It might be the remake of Friday the 13th rather than the original, and these also might just be regular Blu-ray in steelbooks that are mistakenly listed as 4K.

Re: UHD release announcements
Are UHD discs more popular outside of the United States? Seems a lot of stuff gets released in the UK, Germany, and now Spain before the US. Not a complaint, just curious is anyone knows much about those markets.

Re: UHD release announcements
I think it’s the opposite, kinda. Authoring/replication costs are high enough that when studios author a disc, they often author it so it can be used worldwide...which is why some of these discs open with a list of 8,000 language options. But because they’re aimed at so many countries, you have an entire world’s worth of retailers to inadvertently leak upcoming releases early.
Some of those announcements break early in other countries, but they’re usually released worldwide around the same time. There are occasionally delays, like Terminator: Genisys and 13 Hours, but those are the exception.
And then you have cases where the distribution rights vary, which is why Suspiria (remake and the original) and They Live; the labels releasing them in Europe can’t release them in the U.S. Or instances like The Girl in the Spider Web, which Sony released overseas but not over here, but that’s rare as well. I’m getting pretty far off-topic by this point, though.
I do think that European labels are willing to take chances that American labels aren’t, though it’s still for a relatively small number of titles so far.

Re: UHD release announcements
Yeah. That was a local distributor too rather than something Disney put together themselves. It’ll shake out better for us. Apparently that set isn’t too hot.

Amazon just put this up for pre-order. No release date yet.
