I'm kind of pissed I'll have to buy that since the 4K remastered BD is apparently out of print now. WTF

Does anyone know why the UHD pre-order listing for the Man Who Killed Hitler Then Bigfoot disappeared from amazon?

Kino Lorber is getting into the 4K business with a release of Hannibal on April 30.

I guess MGM isn’t going to even attempt to go 4K?

More specifically, is MGM not going to release any 4K discs?

Does MGM actually have much of a catalog to release? Everything before 1986 is owned by WB, and it looks like the bulk of their recent films have been co-productions with other studios, with the other studios handling distribution. Also, even when MGM has distribution rights, Fox handles their physical releases.

Are there specific titles you're looking for?

Re: UHD release announcements

A few more May announcements:

Godzilla - May 14th
Field of Dreams - May 23rd overseas; presumably 21st in the U.S.

Fiddler on the Roof
Thelma and Louise
Rob Roy
To Live and Die in LA

to name a few. These are on digital (excpt To Live and Die in LA). I’m hoping some of all of these will hit 4K.

I believe they own a bunch of Chuck Norris movies too, but most are licensed out to Shout. I still want to know who's sitting on Sidekicks. Only Chuck Norris movie to never even be released on DVD in the US.

To clarify, this is the 1998 remake of Godzilla. I was hoping for the 2014 remake.

Oh, geez, yes, sorry. I can't believe I neglected to specify that.

There's still time for Warner to announce the '14 Godzilla for May, unless they tie it into the home video release of King of the Monsters. I'd bet money it'll be one of the two.

Re: UHD release announcements

MGM's most significant titles in recent years have been from the smaller defunct studios they've gotten rights to, like Orion and American International. Wouldn't mind some good B-movies in 4K, even though Blu-Ray is often better than those titles deserve to look.

Plenty of British retailers have them listed for April 22nd. (Zavvi has a box set of all 3 Cap flicks on Ultra HD Blu-ray.) Best Buy has 'em all listed individually for preorder as well.

Re: UHD release announcements

I'll upgrade all three if the have a good package price. I really don't revisit Cap 1 very often but 2 and 3 are excellent so I would upgrade those two at the very least.

Re: UHD release announcements

The next gen high-end consoles will likely take 100GB BDXL discs for games, so they should be able to play UHD Blu-rays as well. So there should still be a device available to play UHD discs for years to come, even if most dedicated players get phased out.

Using UHDs for games is a terrible idea. They need to switch to flash or drop physical releases entirely.

The article doesn't mention whether it will be the original cut or Redux; it's hopefully both.

Which studio is doing it? Paramount did Gladiator right, but everyone else is ruining UHD for me. Punisher, Patriot, and Terminator 2 all got fucked out of having their extra cuts in 4K, and I'll never buy the theatrical shit.

And a ton of other places before Bill Hunt claimed to exclusively break the news.
