Re: UHD release announcements
Their crowdfunding page lists a new transfer for the Cannes cut as well, and...maybe I’m making bad assumptions because they’re a French label, but maybe that’ll be 4K as well. They haven’t spelled that out either way.
I don’t think we’ll see the domestic cut until Rubenstein comes to terms with the fact that the 3D craze has ended and that the home video market isn’t what it used to be.

Whether or not they're actually doing a 4K disc seems... uncertain. The graphic on the page says it's the very last stretch goal for 50,000 euros, but they didn't technically reach it; missing it by only 145! Hopefully it means they'll do it anyway (being so close and all), and for more than just the Argento cut.
The set might be worth it for the Cannes cut alone.
Of course, it would be awesome if someone pieced together an "Extended Mall Hours" fan edit using the 4K discs. That would never get an official release, of course... but it would be nice to have.

Re: UHD release announcements
Okay, so apparently there's some confusion about this stupid French conference thingie.
Confirmed titles
Confirmed + rumors
I started with the first list, saw a bunch of other stuff listed on blu-ray.com's forums, then thought I'd found a more complete list. Nope! Some of those titles can be ignored until there's better confirmation (Heat, The Godfather, Ben Hur, Lawrence of Arabia, Gravity, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan). Not to say that those aren't coming, necessarily, but those haven't been confirmed for 2019 yet.
Zombie is still on there for March, though! So, whatever that means, if it means anything at all.

Re: UHD release announcements
I'm glad they're announcing this now instead of waiting after the Blu-ray has been out for a while to sucker early buyers like they did with Lion King.
I don't know how happy I am about this, it's most likely an upscale of the now decade+ old existing DI rather than a new 4k scan of the original negative. Disney isn't Sony.

Re: UHD release announcements
Yeah. I can see myself picking up UHD releases of classic Disney animated titles I'd missed on Blu-ray, and I'm sure I could be suckered in by the large format ones like Sleeping Beauty. I'm not sure how many I already have that I'll upgrade, though.
In other news, the original Pet Sematary is coming to Ultra HD Blu-ray, tying into the theatrical release of the remake. Slated for March 26th.

Re: UHD release announcements
The Lion King was produced using CAPS. The pipeline was all-digital and natively around 2K.
I agree about Disney’s treatment of their back catalog in general, but I’m not sure there’s much more they could do with animated films from the CAPS era than what we’re seeing with The Lion King.

Alien is up for preorder on Zavvi. Cover art:
Looks like we might see this in May in the U.S.? None of the sequels appear to be coming alongside it.

Re: UHD release announcements
It doesn't sound like they did anything special for the release, which is actually pretty sad.

The only animated 4K I have is Coco.
In spite of the BD looking great, I would buy this in an instant if the upgrade is significant.

Re: UHD release announcements
4kfilme.de is listing the Batman tetralogy (Batman, Batman Returns, Batman Forever, and Batman & Robin) as arriving in June, alongside a 35th anniversary edition of Gremlins.
It does look like Fox is pulling another Die Hard here, yeah. With The Abyss and True Lies in endless limbo, I can't imagine it'd be easy to get Cameron to sign off on an Aliens remaster.

Well, there's this:
Why it's not on the disc, I have no idea. Pretty sad in its own right.
