Re: UHD release announcements
Is it wrong I really don't want to give up my blu-ray case on this one? Seems like an injustice almost to receive that one in a plain case. Of course, I have the 3-disc movie cd soundtrack and the original boxset for the original trilogy, so perhaps I'm a bit biased. It would be nice if they came out with a steelbook, that would probably convince me.

Re: UHD release announcements
I want to buy the UHD for just the 4K disc and toss the DVD from the blu set and pop in the 4K disc in its place. I have the same blu set and want to keep it.

Re: UHD release announcements
I had to do something similar with my X-Men original trilogy blu set. I ended up keeping the blu-ray box, switching out the cases for 3-disc UHD cases and removing the digital copy discs for the 4k discs. Of course now, I have a 6 disc uhd case with a bunch of blus and digital copy discs (and the 4k digital code) while I'm at it sitting in the closet but I guess that's a happy issue?
Sorta...eh...

Re: UHD release announcements
The first 'IMAX Enhanced' discs -- the first with HDR10+ to boot -- are coming on December 11th: 'A Beautiful Planet' and 'Journey to the South Pacific'. They're arriving courtesy of Mill Creek, of all labels.
(I wonder if IMAX is doing all the authoring, leaving Mill Creek and Shout Factory to just handle distribution and stuff. Both labels' UHD BD release slates consist of nothing but IMAX documentaries.)

Re: UHD release announcements
Is there a good site/thread somewhere out there for keeping track of exclusive international releases? To be clear, I don't mean exclusive packaging (steelbooks, digipacks, whatever) I mean exclusive titles that you can't just buy here in North America.
I grabbed the Ghost in the Shell 2-pack (original movie and sequel, not the live-action one) from Amazon Japan, and recently ordered Suspiria (original) and Dawn of the Dead (only the Argento cut is UHD, but the other cuts are BD) from Amazon Italy, all of which I'm glad to add to my collection.
Are there any others that are worth getting?

Re: UHD release announcements
The most exciting international-only releases at the moment (even though they're not out quite yet) for me are Studiocanal's Carpenter remasters: The Fog, They Live, Prince of Darkness, and Escape from New York.
As far as titles that are actually out now, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and The Neon Demon would probably rank up there. Lotsa Asian releases, from live concerts to the likes of Wolf Warrior II. I can't speak from personal experience, alas, as I haven't actually imported any UHD BDs yet.

Re: UHD release announcements
Thanks guys. That's good enough for what I'm after, as I can go through the threads and see what's not already available here.
Those Studiocanal remasters might be next on my list!

Re: UHD release announcements
It looks like Crazy Rich Asians is indeed a go for Ultra HD Blu-ray, despite the early preorder links having been pulled.

Re: UHD release announcements
Crazy Rich Asians doesn't scream needing to be viewed in 4K. However, I have to admit that some of the Singapore scenics would look good in higher resolution.
I liked the movie when I saw it back in August, but I'm a little iffy on whether or not I want to own it. IMO it doesn't have huge replay value.

Re: UHD release announcements
Ultra HD Blu-ray is in a tight spot with catalog titles because (1) the major studios have generally given up on their back catalogs, unless it's a particularly significant movie or there's a sequel, anniversary, etc. to cash in on and (2) the smaller labels that are licensing these catalog titles aren't interested in UHD BD yet (and maybe won't ever be interested). It's hard for me to imagine something like The Bone Collector or the remake of Assault on Precinct 13 ever making their way to the format. They're not mainstream enough to get the general UHD market excited, and they're not niche enough to appeal to collectors.

Also on the Scorsese tip, some foreign retailers are listing Casino as coming next year.

Love Casino. Too bad it's so damn long. I rarely watch it. Have the HD DVD so I would normally jump at the chance to upgrade to UHD, however I would buy it and watch it once.

I enjoyed Casino, but it's not the kind of movie IMO that has massive replay value. Not sure if I even own the DVD.

Re: UHD release announcements
It's funny, since moving to UHD if there's a Blu-ray only release it actually gives me pause on buying it. I felt that way about Christopher Robin, which I probably would have bought in UHD at some point. If CRA wasn't in UHD, I'd probably hold off too. I'll likely get it in UHD since there's a release now.
