Re: UHD release announcements
The demographics of the UHD buying audience just don't align with the fanbase for the Joy Luck Club. A remastered BD is a likely scenario.
The studios aren't really planning on expanding UHD beyond the home theater crowd. They believe soccer moms and the like will be perfectly served by Netflix/streaming alternatives and won't get much into the format.

Re: UHD release announcements
At least Ultra HD Blu-ray isn't region-coded, so if a foreign distributor is feeling more adventurous...

New Wonder Woman 4K UHD coming October 2nd
What's difference? I can't tell based off the packaging alone.

Re: UHD release announcements
Maybe just a rebrand to highlight DC in the banner there and have a consistent look for all the DCEU movies. Which is funny, because it kind of copies how Marvel movies changed their covers for their Blu-ray's, also with the title (and Marvel Studios) in the middle.
Which I now realize bothers me that all their newer UHD releases like Black Panther, Thor Ragnarok, and Infinity War don't follow suit but the catalog titles like Avengers and Ultron do.

Re: UHD release announcements
The annoying thing about Suicide Squad is that it says EXTENDED EDITION in huge letters, and you have to read the tiny text at the bottom to find out that the extended edition is Blu-ray-only. That's technically no different than the current edition, but the packaging seems really misleading to me.

Have they all but decided that no music concerts will be available on this new format?

Re: UHD release announcements
Looks like we'll see Hellboy on December 18th.
Pretty much. I'm so used to new formats being flooded with concerts and eye candy demos early on, but there's been almost none of that. I think the list begins and ends with Shout Factory's IMAX documentaries and Michael Schenker's Temple of Rock, at least in the U.S.
Eagle Rock and Rhino supported Blu-ray and HD DVD early on with concerts, and they're still pumping stuff out on Blu-ray now, but they're M.I.A. on Ultra HD Blu-ray. Smaller labels like Concert Hot Spot are gone. Since RLJE took over Image Entertainment, I'm not sure if they still release concerts on home video. Of the titles that are still coming out on home video, they seem to be older groups and often decades-old performances. I guess all the newer bands are either releasing their live videos independently (and sidestepping UHD BD along the way) or avoiding physical media altogether.

Re: UHD release announcements
Adding to the list of John Carpenter imports, zoom.co.uk is listing the original Escape from New York for 11/19.
I believe it.

I hardly buy any CDs anymore, but still buy a good number of music videos old and new. Lots of concert laserdiscs and VHS have been in rotation for decades, and I'll usually buy new releases the week they're out.

Re: UHD release announcements
Looks like animated Disney classics are happening. Amazon's Australian site has The Lion King for preorder for Dec., seeming to confirm the Indian retailer that listed that and The Little Mermaid.
